5 Visuals (Color and Black and white) with instructions.
ACTIVITY: This Game will help youth become more familiar with the standard works, which contain the words of the prophets and testify of Jesus Christ and His gospel.
Before playing, talk about the standard works, telling youth that the prophets of each time period told about their people, their faith, and their knowledge of Jesus Christ. Read and talk about each word-strip, then have a quiz by playing the game.
GAME RULES (see below*).
TO MAKE: Print or copy, and cut out the box, word-strips and game rules for each youth. Fold box and glue tabs inside. Place word-strips inside a plastic bag with game rules.
THOUGHT TREAT: Footstep Graham Crackers. Frost a footprint on top of a graham cracker. Tell children that if they read the scriptures they will learn how to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Read 1 Nephi 3:7 and tell youth that the Lord will prepare a way for us to obey the commandments and to follow in His steps, which will lead us on the straight and narrow path back to heaven.
*GAME RULES
Standard Works Thinkathon GAME
- Divide players into two teams and have one team member at a time represent each team.
- Team members take turns drawing a question, handing it to the leader to read (as it has the answer written on the word-strip).
- The leader reads the question and the player guesses the Standard Work: Either the Bible, Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, or Doctrine and Covenants. If they don’t guess the right book within 5 seconds, the other team has 5 seconds to guess.
- Once a correct answer is given they receive a point.
- Another point can be earned if they roll the die and the Standard Work that matches their answer lands on top.
- If they roll “BONUS POINT” they receive two points.
- If they roll “ROLL AGAIN,” they get another roll to win a point.
- Then, it is the other team’s turn.
- When time is up, or all scriptures are drawn, the team with the most points wins!
