LESSON LIFESAVER Activity

CHOOSE THE RIGHT Mind Power wheel

OBJECTIVE.
To help the children keep their thoughts and actions pure.

ACTIVITY:

Tell children that with this wheel they can learn to develop “wheelie” good thoughts. Ask children to take turns turning the wheel and reading the scripture that tells them how to keep their thoughts clean and pure.

TO MAKE:
1. Print out the Mind Power wheel for each child.
2. Cut the hair around the face (to style for boys) and leave the hair for girls.
3. Cut the window out at the top of the head.
4. Attach the wheel on the back of the head by placing a metal fastener or button brad through the center dots.
To make a button brad, sew two buttons together on opposite sides (threading the thread through the same holes to attach the head to the wheel).

THOUGHT TREAT Sweet and Sour “Thought” Treats. Share and compare frosted cupcakes with the gospel of Jesus Christ (that is so sweet), and sour pickles with the bitterness that comes from thoughts and actions that are not pure.  Tell children that their thoughts grow sweeter as they learn about the gospel and choose the right.

YOUTH CAN TEACH using this LESSON 30 I Will Keep My Thoughts and Actions Pure from the Primary 6 Old Testament manual.

. . . Review the enrichment activity 3, for which the above activity illustrates.

IDEAS FOR (the above activity to present it):

Proverbs 23:7 “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”

The thoughts that we have in our minds and our hearts are very important. When the desires of our hearts are righteous, it will help us to make the best choices.

Job 42:2 “I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.”

When we trust in God, we will not try to hide from Him. He knows all our thoughts and actions, and we should think and act in a way that aligns with His will.

Philippians 4:8 “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

We should seek after things that are true, just, pure, and lovely. We want to keep these good thoughts with us so when temptations and hard times come, we have good to look to. What are some things we can think about when temptations come?

– a favorite scripture

– an uplifting song

– nature

– prayer

Example from the scriptures:

King David, the same who defeated Goliath, was faced with temptation, and he chose to act on the temptations that led to multiple bad choices. David desired to have Bathsheba, who was married to Uriah. He acted on this temptation, which led to the decision to place Uriah on the front lines of the battle so he would be killed. When Uriah was killed, David took Bathsheba as his wife.

2 Samuel 11:27 “But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord.”

Because of the bad choices David made, the Lord was not pleased with what he had done. David had tried to hide his sins, but he could not hide them from God.

Later, David is confronted by Nathan the prophet who knows the sins David committed. David recognizes that he could not hide his sins from God, and he faces the consequences of his actions.
