September 14–20: “God Is My Salvation”

Isaiah 1–12

Isaiah was a prophet who lived a very long time ago, around 740–701 BC. He taught people about God, Jesus Christ, and God’s plan to save His children.

You may recognize some of Isaiah’s words because they are used many times in the scriptures and in church hymns. Even Jesus quoted Isaiah!

Why is Isaiah so important?

Isaiah had a special gift for teaching. He used strong pictures and memorable words to help people understand God’s message.

His teachings were not only for the people who lived in his time. They also taught about things that would happen many years later.

Isaiah taught about:

  • ❤️ God’s love and plan to save His children
  • Jesus Christ, the Messiah
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 God’s covenant people
  • 🏠 Gathering God’s people together
  • 🌎 God’s work in the last days

What can we learn from Isaiah?

Isaiah can help us understand that God knows and loves His children. He has a plan for us, and Jesus Christ is an important part of that plan.

Even though Isaiah lived thousands of years ago, his message can still teach us things today.

Simple takeaway:
👉 God loves His children, Jesus Christ saves us, and God has a plan for His people.

PROPHESIES OF ISAIAH
(SECOND COMING OF JESUS)

Isaiah 1–12

The words of Isaiah will all be fulfilled.

Jesus taught that everything Isaiah taught would come true.

Isaiah taught about many different times:

  • Isaiah’s time — things that happened to people who lived long ago.
  • Jesus’s time — things that happened when Jesus lived on earth.
  • The latter days — things that will happen before Jesus comes again.

Some of Isaiah’s prophecies can have more than one meaning or fulfillment. This means that one prophecy can teach us about different events at different times.

As we read Isaiah, we can pray and ask the Holy Ghost to help us understand what his words mean.

Simple lesson idea:
Ask the children: “How can the Holy Ghost help us understand the scriptures?”

HOPE THROUGH REPENTANCE

Isaiah 13–5

Prophets warn about sin and promise hope through repentance.

Isaiah was a prophet who taught people to choose the right, repent when they make mistakes, and trust Jesus Christ.

🌟 What did Isaiah teach?

Isaiah told the people that they were making choices that were not pleasing to Heavenly Father. They were being selfish, dishonest, and disobedient.

Isaiah warned them:

  • Sin can bring sad and difficult consequences.
  • We should listen when prophets warn us.
  • When we make wrong choices, we can repent and change.

❤️ The hopeful message

Isaiah did not only talk about problems. He also taught that Jesus Christ can help us.

When we make mistakes, we are not hopeless. Through Jesus Christ and repentance, we can become clean and receive forgiveness.

You could explain it to children like this:

“Sometimes we make wrong choices. Heavenly Father still loves us. Jesus helps us repent, change, and try again.”

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 What about prophets today?

Prophets today do the same thing Isaiah did. They warn us about things that can hurt us spiritually, but they also teach us about Jesus Christ and the hope He gives us.

Ask the children:

  1. What should we do when we make a mistake?
  2. How does Jesus help us?
  3. Why is it important to listen to prophets?
  4. Can you think of something a prophet has taught us that helps us choose the right?

⭐ One sentence for children to remember

“Prophets warn us about sin and teach us that Jesus Christ can help us repent and have hope.”

IDEAS FOR TEACHING CHILDREN

Isaiah 1:2–4, 16–19

Because of Jesus Christ, I can repent and be clean.

  • Sometimes we make wrong choices or do things that are not right. This is called sin.
  • Isaiah teaches us that we should know and follow our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
  • Think about something that is dirty. Can you make it clean again? Yes!
  • Jesus Christ can help us become spiritually clean when we repent.
  • Repent means we are sorry for our wrong choice, ask Heavenly Father for forgiveness, and try to do better.
  • Jesus loves us and wants to forgive us. Because of Him, we can have a clean heart again.

Ask the children:

  1. What does it mean to repent?
  2. How does Jesus help us when we make mistakes?
  3. What can we do to show Jesus that we love Him?

Simple message:
❤️ “When I make a mistake, I can repent. Jesus Christ loves me and helps me become clean again.”

BUILDING ZION
(Kingdom of God in Latter-days)

Isaiah 2411–12

God will do a great work in the latter days.

Isaiah taught about things that would happen in the future. Some of these things are happening today.

  • Temples: Isaiah taught that the Lord’s house would be built on the mountain. Temples help us learn about God and make special promises to Him.
  • Learning God’s ways: People will come to the Lord’s house to learn His teachings and follow His path.
  • Gathering Israel: God will help His children from all over the world come closer to Him and become part of His covenant family.
  • Peace: Isaiah taught that people will learn to live peacefully instead of fighting.

Isaiah’s prophecies can help us see that God has a plan for His children. He wants us to learn His ways, go to the temple, follow Jesus Christ, and help others come closer to Him.

WORKS OF A PROPHET

Isaiah 6

Prophets are called by God.

God calls prophets to help His children.

Isaiah had a special experience where he saw the Lord. Isaiah felt small and unworthy because he knew he had made mistakes. But the Lord helped cleanse and forgive him.

Then the Lord asked, “Whom shall I send?” Isaiah answered, “Here am I; send me.” This shows that Isaiah was willing to serve God and teach His people.

What can children learn?

  • God loves us, even when we make mistakes.
  • God can forgive and help us when we repent.
  • Prophets are called by God to teach and guide His children.
  • We can be like Isaiah by saying, “I will help!” when we are asked to do something good.
  • We should listen to prophets because they teach us what God wants us to know.

Easy discussion question

If God asked you to help someone, what could you do?

Examples:
❤️ Help a friend
🏠 Help your family
🙏 Pray for someone
😊 Be kind to someone who feels sad
📖 Learn and share what God teaches us

Simple takeaway:
👉 Isaiah was willing to serve God. We can also choose to listen to God and help others.

JESUS SENT TO SAVE

Isaiah 7–9

God promised to send Jesus Christ to be my Savior.

At that time, Judah was afraid because other countries wanted to attack them. Isaiah told King Ahaz:

“Trust God. He will help you.”

Isaiah also taught that a special baby would be born. This baby was Jesus Christ.

Jesus has many names that teach us about Him:

  • Immanuel — means “God is with us.”
  • Wonderful Counsellor — Jesus can help us know what is right.
  • Prince of Peace — Jesus can help us feel peace when we are scared or worried.
  • Savior — Jesus saves us from sin and helps us return to Heavenly Father.

💛 Think About It

Ask the children:

  • How does Jesus help you when you are scared?
  • When have you felt peaceful because of Jesus?
  • Why do you think “God is with us” is a good name for Jesus?
  • What is one thing you can do to follow Jesus this week?

Simple lesson message:
👉 We can trust God and Jesus Christ. Jesus is our Savior, and He is always there to help us.

TEMPLES TEACH OF JESUS

Isaiah 2:2–4

In the temple, I learn about Jesus Christ.

  • Isaiah taught that people from all over the world would want to go to the temple, which is the Lord’s house. (Isaiah 2:2) Talk with your children about why the temple is a special place. Have them draw a picture of their home. Then read Isaiah 2:2–3 and have them draw a picture of a temple with many people, including their family, going there.
  • Read Isaiah 2:2–4 with your children. Ask them, “Why do you think people want to go to the temple?” Talk about how the temple can help us feel peace, love, and closer to Jesus Christ.
  • Sing “I Love to See the Temple.” Ask your children to listen for words that teach them what the temple is and what we do there.

Simple lesson:
👉 The temple is the Lord’s house. We can go there to learn about Jesus Christ, feel His love, and find peace.
