HOW TO USE SCRIPTURE SCHOLARS

FOR: Primary , Sunday School, Individual Families, family night, scripture study

SCRIPTURE SCHOLARS
• The BOOKMARKS and POP-UP Kits, and the STAMP Kit are sold individually, or you can purchase them in the BUNDLE each month that includes the STAMPS.
• The STAMP KEEPER is only found in the January starter kit or an individual STAMP kit (below or HERE).

As you become a Scripture Scholar, you will begin to remember where scriptures are located in the standard works with these POP-UPS marking the spots, helping you find fun scripture stories.      

BOOKMARKS help you in two ways: 1) Guide you through the scripture-lessons, and 2) Act as an underlining guide to mark key phrases or scriptures. The image for each STAMP matches the BOOKMARK, remind you of scriptures read.

   The STAMP KEEPER and weekly STAMPS help chart your progress through the 50 Come Follow Me lessons and will also be a reminder to complete your scripture reading to be a Scripture Scholar!

#1 SCRIPTURE POP-UP™:  Open your scriptures to the scripture on the POP-UP and underline the verse. Place a strip of Washi tape along the left-edge and insert it into the binding. Washi tape works best because it secures the pop-up but you are able to move or reposition it without tearing your page. You may also use a glue stick by running a very thin line of glue (no more than 1/8^th of an inch along the left edge) on the scripture pop-up. CAUTION: Once glued, you may not remove the pop-up easily and may tear your page, therefore we recommend the Washi Tape. Once secure, every time you open this page it will pop-up and be a reminder of the scripture passage. Printing & Placement of POP-UPS: We suggest printing your POP-UPS on 27-29 lb. Vellum (a semi-transparent very thin paper which allows your pop-up to be seen from the other side) or thinner paper so you can have numerous pop-ups without expanding the book’s binding. Your print or hobby shop may suggest a very thin paper to make it less bulky. Using regular paper is ok too and is not semi-transparent, but will allow for making notes on the backside. If you do use Vellum, purchase Laser Vellum so that it can be used at the copy shop or you can print on a laser or inkjet printer at home. Laser vellum works just fine on an inkjet printer. Allow the vellum to dry after printing or it will smear. The printed vellum may curl as well, but simply turn it over and roll it around a pencil in the opposite direction to straighten out. Placement: Scatter your pop-ups along the top, middle, and bottom of the binding to avoid having them pile up in one place. You may have more than one pop-up on a page, but they can overlap slightly and still be ok.

#2 SCRIPTURE READING BOOKMARK:

Read the scriptures together in Primary or at home to learn the key scriptures that illustrate each lesson’s subject. Bookmarks marked PRIMARY are combined topics and scriptures from “Come Follow Me– For Primary” manual and INDIVIDUALS & FAMILIES bookmark correlates to the subjects and scriptures found in the “Come Follow Me– Individuals and Families” manual. Print your bookmarks on cardstock paper for durability and so they can be used as a straight edge for underlining. Scripture scholars will outline or underline in their scriptures the phrases or passages that are important to them. Or, highlight (color over with pastel colored pencils) lightly so special words will stand out as they are read again and again. Avoid using any markers that bleed through the pages.

Create a collection of bookmarks as you go, by hole punching the lower left-hand corner of the bookmark and adding them to a metal ring.

#3 SCRIPTURE SCHOLAR STAMP KEEPER & STAMPS (sold separately, see above left to DOWNLOAD) Charting your progress is easy with this fun 50-week, 20” long Scripture Scholar Stamp Keeper and lesson coordinating stamps. Scripture Scholars will post it in their rooms and will collect a stamp for each week. The Scripture Keeper also acts as a reminder to keep going! Starter package includes keeper and January stamps. Following month’s stamps will be available individually. TO USE THE STAMPS: Have children read their scriptures found on the bookmark and then receive their stamp to place on that week’s square on the stamp keeper.
