Proverbs 1–4; 15–16; 22; 31; Ecclesiastes 1–3; 11–12
The books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes both teach us how to live a good life.
Proverbs is like advice from loving parents. It teaches us to be wise, make good choices, and trust God. When we follow God’s wisdom, life can go better.
Ecclesiastes reminds us that life is not always easy. Sometimes even when we try to do the right thing, we may still have problems, sadness, or confusion. Some things in life do not last forever.
But both books teach an important lesson:
Trust God, follow His commandments, and keep Him in your life.
Life will not always be perfect, but when we trust Jesus Christ, He can help us find peace, meaning, and direction.

WORDS ABOUT “WISDOM”
Proverbs 1–4; 15–16; Ecclesiastes 1–3; 11–12
“Incline thine ear unto wisdom.”
It means we should listen carefully to God and learn from Him.
The scriptures teach that God gives us wisdom to help us:
- 🧠 Know what is right
- ❤️ Make good choices
- 🙏 Listen to God
- 🛡️ Avoid things that can hurt us
- 🌟 Become more like Jesus
“Incline thine ear unto wisdom” means: “Listen closely and pay attention to wisdom.”
God’s wisdom is special because He knows what is best for us. When we pray, read the scriptures, and follow His teachings, He can help us make wise choices and receive blessings.
FAITH IN THE LORD’S WISDOM
Proverbs 1:7; 2:5; 3:7; 15:33; 16:6; 31:30; Ecclesiastes 12:13
“Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord.”
The Bible teaches us that God is wise, and we can learn from Him.
📖 Proverbs 3:7 says:
“Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord.”
What does this mean?
It means:
- Don’t think you know everything. We all have things to learn.
- Listen to God. He knows what is best for us.
- Respect and love the Lord. “Fear the Lord” does not mean being scared of God. It means having deep respect for Him and wanting to follow His teachings.
- Ask God for wisdom. When we don’t know what to do, we can pray and ask Heavenly Father for help.
🧒 Simple Example
Imagine you are building something and you don’t know how to do it. Your parent knows how, so you ask for help.
God is like that, but even better. He knows what is best for our lives. We can pray, read the scriptures, and listen to good advice to learn His wisdom.
❤️ Remember
God knows more than we do. When we trust Him, listen to Him, and follow His teachings, He can help us make good choices.

- What does it mean to be wise?
- Does “fear the Lord” mean we should be scared of God? Why not?
- How can we ask God for wisdom?
- Can you think of a time when someone helped you make a good choice?
One simple sentence to remember:
👉 “I can trust God because He knows what is best for me.”
IDEAS FOR TEACHING CHILDREN
Proverbs 1:7; 2:5; 15:33; 16:6; Ecclesiastes 12:13
To “fear God” means to love and obey Him.
What does it mean to “fear God”?
It does not mean we should be scared of God. It means we love, respect, and obey Him.
We can think of “fearing God” as:
- ❤️ Loving God
- 🙏 Respecting God
- 👂 Listening to God
- ✅ Obeying His commandments
Ask the children:
- How can we show God that we love Him?
- How can we show respect for God?
- What is one thing we can do to obey Him?
Simple example:
“When we love our parents, we want to listen to them and make good choices. In the same way, when we love God, we want to listen to Him and follow His teachings.”
HEAVENLY TRUST
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart.”
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Proverbs 3:5–7 teaches us to trust God instead of always depending only on what we think we know.
You could explain it like this:
- Trusting the Lord is like following a guide who knows the way, even when I cannot see where the path goes.
- Depending only on myself is like trying to find my way without a map or a guide.
- God knows what is best for us, even when we do not understand everything.
Questions to think about:
- Why is it sometimes hard to trust God?
- How do we know that God can be trusted?
- Can you think of a time when following God helped you?
Letting the Lord guide us
Proverbs 3 and 4 compare life to a path. When we let the Lord “direct” our path, we listen to Him and follow His teachings.
Think of walking on a path:
- The right path can lead us to safety and happiness.
- The wrong path can lead us into trouble.
- God can help us know which path to choose.
Questions to think about:
- What are some ways God guides us?
- How can we make good choices?
- What can we do when we are not sure which way to go?
Simple message:
Trust God, follow His guidance, and He will help you choose the right path.
IDEAS FOR TEACHING CHILDREN
I can trust in the Lord with all my heart.
Simple lesson idea:
- Ask the children: “What does it mean to trust Jesus?”
- Have them make a heart with their hands and say, “I can trust the Lord with all my heart.”
- Try some fun actions:
- Make a heart with your hands ❤️
- Point upward for “Lord”
- Walk in place for “follow”
- Point to your head for “understanding”
Object lesson:
Have the children lean against a strong wall. Ask, “Is the wall strong enough to hold us?” Yes!
Then let them pretend to lean on something that is not strong, like a broom or a piece of paper. Ask, “Would you trust this to hold you up?”
Explain: Sometimes we don’t know what is best, but Jesus does. We can trust Him even when we don’t understand everything.
Ask the children:
- How can we show Jesus that we trust Him?
- What can we do when we don’t know what to do?
- Why is it better to trust Jesus than to always depend only on what we think?
Main message:
🌟 I can trust Jesus with all my heart and follow His teachings.
PEACEMAKERS
“A soft answer turneth away wrath.”
- Proverbs 15–16 teaches us how to communicate kindly, especially with people we love.
- Proverbs 15:1 says that a gentle answer can calm an angry person.
- Jesus showed this kind of kindness when He spoke with others. We can follow His example by being patient, calm, and respectful.
- These teachings also apply to texting and social media. We should think before we post or send something and make sure our words are kind and helpful.
- One simple rule could be: “Think before you speak or type, and use words that bring peace instead of anger.”
IDEAS FOR TEACHING CHILDREN
I can use kind words.
- Sometimes we feel angry. When we are angry, we can use gentle and kind words.
- Proverbs 15:1 teaches us that a kind answer can help stop anger.
- We can practice saying things like:
- “It’s okay.”
- “Can we talk about it?”
- “Please stop.”
- “I forgive you.”
- Being slow to anger means we do not get angry too quickly.
- When we feel angry, we can:
- Think about Jesus.
- Pray to Heavenly Father.
- Sing a Primary song.
- Take a quiet break or walk away.
- I can choose kind words, even when I feel angry.
STRONG “VIRTUOUS” WOMEN
“A woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.”
Proverbs 31:10–31 describes “a virtuous woman,” or a woman of great spiritual strength, capability, and influence. You might try summarizing in your own words what each of these verses says about virtuous women. Which of these traits can you emulate? THIS GOES FOR YOUNG MEN AS WELL
“A woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised" (Proverbs 31:30)
WHAT KIND OF WOMAN IS THIS?
• A woman who loves God and lives with kindness, wisdom, and hard work.
• She takes good care of her family, works faithfully, and is always willing to help people who need it.
• She thinks ahead so she can make wise decisions.
• She is kind and honest.
• She is strong and dependable—not giving up when things get difficult.
• She loves and trusts God and lives in a way to honor Him.
FINDING “ETERNAL” VALUE
Mortal life is temporary.
Ecclesiastes 12 teaches us to remember God, follow His commandments, and do what is right. It also teaches that our spirits return to God after we die.
We should remember that life on Earth is temporary so we do not focus too much on things that will not last. Instead, we can love God, keep His commandments, help others, and prepare to return to Him. These things give our lives lasting and eternal meaning.
