ACTIVITY:

• Have youth choose a card and place it under the “I can show RESPECT” sign or the “I should not show DISRESPECT” sign.

• The leader then asks when each card is posted, “How does this show respect?” “How does this show disrespect?” “What are the consequences of making this decision?”

SHOW REVERENCE—By folding our arms during prayer, we are showing our Heavenly Father that we want to listen to what is being said and want to have God’s blessings.

PRAY APPROPRIATELY—The Holy Ghost can teach us things we need to know.

DRESS MODESTLY—It shows that we know our body is a temple and is very sacred. When we are clean and wear our Sunday-best clothes to church, we are showing respect for Heavenly Father when we enter His house.

BE KIND TO OTHERS—Others will be kind to you, and you can feel at peace.

USE GOOD WORDS—It’s hard if you use bad words because you can’t take them back.

LISTEN POLITELY—We can learn things we need to do to be happy.

SAY THANK YOU—Others will feel appreciated and loved.

“I SHOULD NOT SHOW DISRESPECT”
(examples of consequences)

FORGET TO SAY PLEASE—Others may not be so willing to help you.

IGNORE PARENTS—They may not trust you to do as they ask.

INTERRUPT OTHERS—They cannot finish what they are doing, wasting their time.

DEMAND TO EAT—Others may not be so willing to prepare meals for you.

CALL OTHERS BAD NAMES—This hurts others, and they will not want to be your friend.

Teacher/Parent signs the note enclosing 7 pieces of candy, and write the youth’s name on the envelope (so you make sure each child has theirs).

OTHER SUGGESTION: Reduce the above images to cut out and place them in the envelope. Leave three pieces of paper the same size in there so they can draw their own images as they think up new ways to be respectful.
