PRIMARY MUSIC SINGING TIME ACTIVITIES to Motivate Children to Sing

DESCRIPTION: Tell children they can help us be “Egg”stra Special Singers! Two children can come up: one chooses an egg (to tell which song to sing), and the other chooses a hidden chick (to tell how to sing the song, e.g., wiggle your fingers).

Then tell them if they sing “Egg”-stra good, they can receive the “Egg”-stra Special Singer award (included).

To Make:
1. Print, color, and cut out the basket parts A and B, and two or three sets of eggs and chicks.
2. Mount the basket on a poster and laminate the entire poster.
3. Laminate the eggs and chicks.
4. Write of the back of eggs the names of songs children are familiar with and practice songs.
5. Write ways children can sing on the backs of chicks, e.g., softer, louder, sing standing up, sing with arms folded, sing with eyes closed, sing turned around, only boys sing, only girls sing, sing with arms (chicken wings) flapping.
6. Mount the eggs in the basket with tape, and hide the chick behind the eggs.
7. Make the You’re an “egg”stra special singer! award badge for each deserving singer – example limit 5 per singing time (making note of those who won last time). See this badge and other Award & Badges SUPER SINGER: Awards, Badges, & Birthday Buttons.

To Use: Ask children to come up and choose an egg. Sing the song on the back of the egg chosen. If a child finds a chick behind the egg, ask children to sing the way the chick suggests, e.g., eyes closed.
