“The Holy Ghost Helps me” Concentration Game
OBJECTIVE: Help children/youth identify ways the Holy Ghost helps them with this Concentrate on the Holy Ghost—Concentration game.
ACTIVITY: Holy Ghost Concentration Game
1. Read the following quote from the Prophet Ezra Taft Benson, “To the Children/youth of the Church,” Friend, Jun 1989, 3. “Pray to Heavenly Father to bless you with His Spirit at all times. We often call the Spirit the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is also a gift from Heavenly Father. The Holy Ghost helps you to choose the right. The Holy Ghost will protect you from evil. He whispers to you in a still, small voice to do right. When you do good, you feel good, and that is the Holy Ghost speaking to you. The Holy Ghost is a wonderful companion. He is always there to help you.”
2. Review the Moroni 10:5 scripture poster (to DOWNLOAD from gospelgrabbag.com) and talk about how the Holy Ghost has the power to guide our lives in every situation.
3. Tape the symbol cards on the board randomly facedown. Tell children/youth that they are going to find ways the Holy Ghost helps us by playing this Concentration game.
4. Divide children into two teams and have players take turns coming up and turning two cards over to make a match. Replace cards in the same position facedown if a match is not made.
5. Once a match is made, post it in the center of the board and have child/youth read from the cards to learn ways the Holy Ghost can help them. Then have the child read the scripture (or one of the scriptures) that supports the Holy Ghost’s role written on the cards.
6. After each match, leaders can share experiences they may have had that relate to the card/Holy Ghost action.
7. If there is time, talk about situations and how the Holy Ghost can help in each, pulling the cards that match the situation, e.g., “Marta was lost and the Holy Ghost GUIDED her or INSPIRED her to find her way home.”

FILLS US WITH HOPE AND LOVE: Moroni 8:26; D&C 36:2; 2 Nephi 31:20
TO MAKE: Print, color, and cut out two sets of the concentration match cards. Laminate and cut out.

THOUGHT TREAT: One-way Arrow-Sign Cookies. Make a square- or rectangular-shaped cookie and frost an arrow on top. Tell children/youth that they will get straight answers from the Holy Ghost, teaching them the truth and warning them against danger and temptation. Tell them that baptism is the gate that opens up onto the strait and narrow path (read scripture below*) that leads them back to heavenly father. As they choose the right every day the Holy Ghost will help them stay on that path.
*”And then are ye in this strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life; yea, ye have entered in by the gate; ye have done according to the commandments of the Father and the Son; and ye have received the Holy Ghost, which witnesses of the Father and the Son, unto the fulfilling of the promise which he hath made, that if ye entered in by the way ye should receive” (2 Nephi 31:17-18).
