Lesson 16: I Will Say I’m Sorry
OBJECTIVE: Tell children that when we do something wrong or make a mistake, we should say sorry. Then we should try to correct the wrong thing we have done. This way we can soften our heart, be humble, and show we are willing to ask for forgiveness.
CRAFT ACTIVITY – I Can Say Hippopotamus. I Can Say I’m Sorry – Hippo Sack Puppet
1. Give each child a hippo sack puppet (shown) to create. To make, glue hippo head on the bottom of a lunch sack with the jaw in the middle of the sack. When fingers move sack flap up and down, hippo’s mouth opens wide as the child says, “I’m sorry.”
2. Children can enjoy saying I’m sorry with their hippo sack puppet. With the sack, rehearse the word hippopotamus. If they can say this big word, they can say, “I’m sorry” when they do something wrong.
THOUGHT TREAT: Animal-shaped cookies to look for hippos!
SINGING for I Will Say I’m Sorry (Nursery Lesson 16) or I Can Say I’m Sorry (Sunbeam Lesson 29): Sing “Jesus Said Love Everyone” (Children’s Songbook, 61).
