TO MAKE Print and cut out the My Valiant Testimony board game for each youth. You’ll need two coins or button markers.

THOUGHT TREAT “Bee” Valiant Honey Taffy.
Make Honey Taffy by boiling 1 pint of honey for 5-8 minutes (check the soft-ball stage by placing water in a cup and dropping some boiling honey into a cup – to see if it forms a soft – medium firm ball). Pour onto a buttered cookie sheet and stir with a spatula, adding 1/4 – 1/2 cup butter (a must) so taffy doesn’t get hard. Then when cool enough to pick up form into long strips onto waxed paper and cool for 5 minutes then cut into pieces.
THOUGHT: Talk to children about “bee” -ing valiant, obeying Heavenly Father’s commandments. Talk about what they can look forward to if they are obedient, e.g., having safety and peace in this life and later living with Heavenly Father and Jesus in the celestial kingdom.

LESSON IDEAS about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

This is a powerful story that comes from thre brave men who did not want to worship idols and how the Lord God, Jesus Christ saved them from being burned in a furnice heated seven times hotter than usual.

The soldiers bound them before casting them ito the fire (Daniel 3:19-20).
Something happened to the men who threw them into the furnace (Daniel 3:22.)
This proved to King Nebuchadnezzar something (Daniel 3:28-30.)

Yes, the King said that no other God could deliver them from this and to worship only their God.

Yes, the Lord chose to protect Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (because they were valiant). However, God doesn’t always protect righteous people who need to grow from their trials and hardships.

Think about baby chicks inside the mother hen’s eggs.

God created something special for them, an “egg tooth on its beak. As they peck at the shell to get out, this pecking strengthens the chick’s neck and body muscles, preparing them to face life outside the shell.

Why? He wants them to grow from their trials and hardships. We all have trials and problems but we are not all saved or helped as quickly as the story of these three men here. They were to be preserved immediately for a reason.

Let’s think about the word VALIANT and describe what it means: obedient, courageous, brave, lovinging, loyal, kind, true, strong, honest, faithful, unselfish, forgiving, and righteous. These three men knew that we should only worship God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and as we do we can have God’s spirit to guide us to help us know right from wrong, warn us of danger, and help us keep God’s commandments.

These three men were VALIANT in their testimony.

SUMMARY OF STORY*:

WHO in the scriptures?
In the Bible, we read about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who would not pray to the IDOL made of gold. They prayed to the true God instead. The king of Babylon had made the idol and told the people to pray to the idol or they would be burned in a fiery furnace. (Daniel 3:1, 4-6, 13-15)  (SMA-1)

WHAT did they pray about?
The king was angry when someone told him that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were praying to God and not to the idol. He told them they would be burned in the FURNACE, but they were not afraid, because they knew God would save them. The king’s servants built a very hot fire in the furnace. It was so hot that the servants died when they threw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego inside. (Daniel 3:16-23)  (SMA-2)

HOW were their prayers answered?
The king looked into the furnace and saw four men walking around in the fire. One of the men was an angel of God that saved Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego from the flames. The king shouted their names and told them to come out of the furnace. The fire had not hurt them or burned their hair or clothes. They didn’t even smell like SMOKE. The king made a new law that no one could say bad things about the God of Israel—that only the true God could have saved the men from the fire. The king honored these men. (Daniel 3:24-30) (SMA-3)
