I Love Water! Jesus Created Water

OBJECTIVE: The activity talks about water; a creation of Jesus Christ. The LESSON is to tell them about baptism by immersion in water as follows. Tell children that Jesus was baptized to show obedience to His father who is our Heavenly Father. He set an example for us. When we are baptized, we show we want to follow Jesus and keep God’s commandments. After we are baptized, we can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost to guide us if we continue to choose the right.
Use the activity for NUSERY and SUNBEAMS (Ages 1-5)
POSTER ACTIVITY – Jesus Created Water Poster
1. Print or copy the activity poster to color. The poster helps children feel gratitude for water, thanking Heavenly Father and Jesus. See Emphasis on BAPTISM AND THE SACRAMENT (below).
2. Talk about the poster, saying, “I love water!”
• Help children answer questions:
– “What do you think would happen if you took a bath in tomato soup instead?” (You can show some tomato soup.)
– “Can you find the animal that lives in water?” (Help them find the fish.)
– “Do you know what ice is made of?” (Put ice cubes in each child’s drink.)
• Talk about uses for water: I am thankful for the water that comes from the sky, filling our lakes, rivers, and oceans. I use water for many things. I drink it, bathe in it, and use it to wash my hair and clothes. I use it to wash dishes, water the flowers and other plants, and water my pets.
• Talk about water in relation to BAPTISM AND THE SACRAMENT. We can be baptized in water like Jesus when we are eight. Each week in sacrament meeting we can partake of the sacrament bread and water to remember Jesus and promise to follow Him.
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “During the week, help me be thankful that Jesus created water.”
THOUGHT TREAT: Water. You can add ice cubes or blue food coloring, talking about how the blue sky reflects on the water (but the water is not blue—just a reflection).

SINGING TIME. “BAPTISM” song visuals. Children love singing “When Jesus came to John the Baptist,” “was baptized by immersion,” all to make His way to heaven and show us the way, with no sin, Jesus didn’t need baptism. He simply did it to show us the way, to be obedient. The words tell this story.
