Little LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
My Hands Can Help! helping hand mitten

OBJECTIVE:
Help children appreciate their hands.

CRAFT ACTIVITY – My Hands Can Help! – Helping Hand Mitten
1. Print or copy the activity. Cut out and glue the mitten together 1/4″ on the outside edge, leaving the bottom open for the child’s hand to fit in.

2. Mitten shows children that their hands can help, showing ways they can lend a helping hand: Brush teeth, dress, play ball, wash face, eat, feed the cat, and make music. Children slip mittens over their hands and flip mittens back and forth to show ways they can help. The smile reminds children that helping makes them happy.  Ask children to come up one at a time and tell others ways their hands can help.

THOUGHT TREAT: Thumbprint or handprint cookie. Roll cookie dough into balls and press a child’s handprint or thumbprint into cookie dough. Sprinkle hand or thumbprint with colored sugar or decorator candies before baking. As children eat their cookies, remind them that Heavenly Father and Jesus created our hands so we could use them to work, play, and get ready for church.

SINGING for Sunbeam Lesson 17 – I Am Thankful for My Hands:
• Sing “Hinges” (Children’s Songbook, 277). During the song, have children move their wrists to show where their hands are hooked on.
• Sing “Eensy Weensy Spider” Use fingers to show the (finger) spider crawling up your arm.
• Sing “Five Little Ducks” Use the whole hand, putting fingers down as ducks go away, then raising them up when five little ducks return. Open/close whole hand as mother and father ducks quack.
