USE FOR Church, Home, and School (children Ages 1-5)
Little LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
I Love Nature (poster or coloring page)
OBJECTIVE: Help children feel gratitude to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ for trees, plants, and flowers. When we pray, we can thank Them for these beautiful creations that help us.
• Ask children to:
(1) think of another fruit that grows on a tree;
(2) name animals and birds that live in trees (e.g., squirrel, monkey, chipmunk, leopard, snake, owl, or robin);
(3) name your favorite vegetable;
(4) name your favorite flower;
(5) list what you would like to plant in a garden;
(6) tell what you like most about trees (e.g., they are homes for animals, we can climb them, we can pick fruit from them, we can sit in their shade).
• Growing plant actions: Makeup actions to go with trees, plants, and flowers as you sing to the tune of “Once There Was a Snowman,” (Children’s Songbook, 249). Sing, “I can plant a tree, tree, tree . . . water it and watch it grow . . . tall, tall, tall.”
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “Take me for a walk to look at the trees, plants, and flowers and help me pray to thank Heavenly Father for these creations.”
THOUGHT TREAT: Apple and seeds. Cut up apple slices and serve with sunflower seeds.
SINGING for Sunbeam Lesson 10 – I Am Thankful for Trees, Plants, and Flowers: Sing “In the Leafy Treetops” and “Popcorn Popping” (Children’s Songbook, 240, 242).
