GRATITUDE: I Feel Grateful for Pioneers word-find puzzle

 

OBJECTIVE: To encourage youth to feel GRATITUDE for the efforts of the first pioneers to reach the Salt Lake Valley. 

ACTIVITY: Pioneer Word-find Puzzle

Fill in puzzle blanks using the words below to think about the struggles of the Mormon pioneers who found and settled the Salt Lake Valley. Cross out or highlight words as you add them to the trail of words. Remind youth that the pioneers prepared the way for thousands of others to come. Their hardships and hard work are described in this puzzle. Do puzzles individually or with two teams to compete. The first to finish wins.

SCRIPTURE CHALLENGE CARD: Help youth Search and Ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. PRINT this 5 x 7 scripture card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.

THOUGHT TREAT “Grape-ful” Grapes or Trail-mix. Share treats as you talk about how grateful you are for the pioneers’ hard work. The pioneers pulled covered wagons across the plains built a new trail called the Mormon trail, protected themselves from Indian attacks, made friends with many Indians, fished and hunted for food, crossed large rivers and streams, traveled with horses and oxen over the rough Rocky Mountains, and planted food along the way, preparing the way for thousands of Saints to enter the Salt Lake valley.
