YOUTH LESSON ACTIVITY. INVITES THE SPIRIT – TURNS THE SPIRIT AWAY game. Youth will increase their desire to have the right spirit influencing them as they draw from wordstrips to find actions and vote: which actions INVITE THE SPIRIT and which actions TURN THE SPIRIT AWAY. One brings happiness and the other sadness. This same Spirit can help you discern false prophets and teachings.
ACTIVITY: Invite the Spirit Game
Learn about choices that invite the Holy Ghost and choices that turn the Spirit away. Remind youth that as we pray, we can ask for the Spirit to guide us to make the right choices.
TO PLAY: Youth take turns drawing a word-strip and reading it aloud. The player makes a choice by saying, “Invites the Spirit,” or “Turns the Spirit Away.” If competing in teams, award a point for each correct choice. When time is up, the team with the most points wins.
TO MAKE: Print or copy, color, and cut out the Invites the Spirit label and word-strips for each youth. Place them in a clear bag.
THOUGHT TREAT: Smile-Frown Cookie. Frost a smile on top and a frown on the bottom of the cookie. Tell youth, “When our choices invite the Spirit, we turn our frown upside down.”
