OBJECTIVE: Help children appreciate their eyes and what they can do.

POSTER ACTIVITY – The EYES have it!: I’m so thankful I can see.
1. Print or copy the activity poster to color.
2. Talk about poster, saying, “The eyes have it! I’m so thankful I can see. Little tiny ladybugs as teensy as can be seem to hide out anywhere. How many can you see?”
• Help children color ladybugs red.
• Recite the nursery rhyme: “Ladybug! Ladybug! Fly away home.” For older children, you can add the rest: “Your house is on fire, and your children all gone. All except one, and that’s little Ann, for she crept under the frying pan.”
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “Help me look into the mirror to see my eyes. Show me how they move, blink, open, and close (show them in the mirror). We could take a walk, and you could point out all the wonderful things, both large and very small, that our eyes can see!” (If time permits, take a walk around the meetinghouse to see things you can thank Heavenly Father for.)

THOUGHT TREAT: “Eye” love you eyes-cookie. Place two candy “eyes” on a cookie using frosting. Ask children to tell you why they love their eyes and what they can do. For example, our eyes can see color, clouds, trees, flowers, bugs, birds, family, friends, teachers, pictures, our house, our room, our food, our toys.

SINGING for Sunbeam Lesson 19 – I Am Thankful for My Eyes: Sing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.” For fun actions, go to the same song in the Super Little Singers book (131) or CD-ROM.
