LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
Jesus and Heavenly Father Love Me:
Guardian Angel doorknob reminder

OBJECTIVE:
The lesson teaches children that Jesus Christ loves each of us and to encourage them to experience joy by having faith in him.
Review the Enrichment Activity 1 (see PRIMARY LESSON below*) for which the following activity illustrates.

ACTIVITY: Guardian Angel Doorknob Reminder

Create a guardian angel that children can hang on their door as a reminder that Heavenly Father sends ministering angels to guard and watch over them. As they are faithful in keeping their promises, Heavenly Father and Jesus will send comfort and blessings. Show children how they can place this over their doorknob or next to their bed to review the quote from President Ezra Taft Benson.

As shown in the activity above, read and discuss the following statement from President Ezra Taft Benson, thirteenth President of the Church:

“I promise you, dear children, that angels will minister unto you also. You may not see them, but they will be there to help you, and you will feel of their presence. …”

TO MAKE Print on cardstock, copy, color, and cut out the Doorknob Reminder that follows for each child.

THOUGHT TREAT: Angel Food Cake. This soft sponge cake can remind children of the soft-touch angels have on our lives—since they are around us and we are often not aware of their comforting and guiding presence.

TESTIMONY: Testify that Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father love all children and that if we have faith in Jesus Christ and obey the commandments, we will know the joy of living with them again.

3 Nephi 17:19-21 After Jesus prayed the people were filled with joy. Jesus had them arise. Jesus “said unto them: Blessed are ye because of your faith. And now behold, my joy is full. And when he had said these words, he wept, and the multitude bare record of it, and he took their little children, one by one, and blessed them, and prayed unto the Father for them.

Chapter 44: Jesus Christ Blesses the Children (Book of Mormon) Christ tells the Nephites to bring their children to him. He offers a prayer that is so marvelous that the words of it could not be written. Christ blesses the children one by one, and they are surrounded and ministered to by angels from heaven.

SONG VISUALS “DEAREST CHILDREN, GOD IS NEAR YOU”. Youth need to know we are watched over by God and His angels day and night and we can be blessed as we make the right choices. Write the words on the cue cards (in your language) to place on the back, e.g., “He will bless you … If you put your trust in him.”  READ MORE

THE ABOVE ACTIVITY (shown right) illustrates the following Enrichment Activity #1 (in the manual).

  1. Read and discuss the following statement from President Ezra Taft Benson, thirteenth President of the Church:

“I promise you, dear children, that angels will minister unto you also. You may not see them, but they will be there to help you, and you will feel of their presence. …

“Dear children, our Heavenly Father sent you to earth at this time because you are some of His most valiant children. He knew there would be much wickedness in the world today, and He knew you would be faithful and obedient” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1989, p. 105; or Ensign, May 1989, p. 83).

  1. Read together 3 Nephi 17:20–21. Ask the children to choose a word or group of words from these verses that they think is important, and then have them share their feelings about the words they chose.
  2. Ask the children to think about the times in their lives when they have been the happiest. Ask them the following questions about those times:
    • What were you doing?
    • What made you happy?
    • Why are we happiest when we live like Jesus taught?
    • Why are you happiest with certain friends and family members?

Explain that we naturally want to be with those whom we love and who love us. If we obey the commandments, we can live with Heavenly Father and Jesus and our families forever. This will give us the greatest joy we can experience.
