LESSON ACTIVITY. JAREDITES GO TO THE PROMISED LAND! crossword puzzle and barge placemat. Youth can learn of the Brother of Jared who prayed that he might learn how to light the barges (boats) that were dark that they needed to travel in across the sea. The Lord pointed His finger turning the stones into light. This miracle comforted the Jaredites as they crossed the sea.

Jaredites Go to the Promised Land! crossword puzzle and barge placemat
OBJECTIVE: Tell children that the Holy Ghost will guide us like the Jaredites who were lead to the Promised Land.
ACTIVITY: Jaredites Crossword Puzzle
Help children read Ether 1, 2, 3, and 6 to find the words in the puzzle.
Answers—Across: (3) Holy Ghost (6) Jesus Christ (9) brother of Jared (11) pray (12) sixteen
Answers—Down: (1) promised land (2) touch (4) dish (5) light (7) stones (8) tower of Babel (9) barge (10) finger.
TO MAKE Print activity on lightweight paper, copy, color, and cut out the Jaredites Crossword Puzzle for each child.
THOUGHT TREAT Cookie Barge. Make the recipe below and place cookies on the cookie barge placemat (copy the pattern that follows). Talk about the barges they sailed to the Promised Land in (shaped like a dish having no windows). Jared prayed for guidance on how to sail without light or air. Read Ether 2:17.
COOKIE BARGE: Preheat oven to 375° and grease cookie sheet. Beat an 18–ounce cake mix, adding 3/4 cup water and two eggs. Drop a heaping tablespoon full of batter onto a cookie sheet 3 inches apart. Bake 8–11 minutes, cool, and frost cookie bottoms only, placing bottoms together like a sandwich with rounded top and bottom.
