AGES 1-5 I LOVE THE SCRIPTURES! poster or coloring page. Children can get extra help from parents and teachers as they read the scriptures and stories together. Talk to them about two sets of scriptures they can learn about Jesus, the Bible, and The Book of Mormon. Hold the books close to your heart and say, “I love these books!” Or, say, before you start to read, “Let’s say a prayer to Heavenly Father to help us learn from the scriptures.” Ask them to tell the stories back to you.
Great for COME, FOLLOW ME Lessons: Use in Primary classes, at home for Family Home Evening, or Activity Days.

I love the scriptures! poster or coloring page
OBJECTIVE: Tell children about the standard works. The scriptures tell us about Jesus and about Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness. They contain stories of people who obeyed Heavenly Father’s commandments. Nephi said, “My soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them” (2 Nephi 4:15).
POSTER ACTIVITY – Scriptures Poster
1. Print or copy the activity poster to color.
2. Talk about the poster, saying, “I love the scriptures!”
Tell a story from each book of scripture. For example, in the Book of Mormon in 1 Nephi, tell of the prophet Lehi, who is told to take his family and flee into the wilderness because Jerusalem will be destroyed. His family is led to the Promised Land by a compass that works only when the family obeys God (Alma 37:44).
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “Let’ s read the scriptures together! Help me love the scriptures by reading them with me. Help me to understand the stories we read.”

THOUGHT TREAT: Iron Rod—licorice or pretzels. Give children a string of licorice or a pretzel stick. Talk about the iron rod in Lehi’s dream (1 Nephi 8:19) that helps us stay on the “strait” (straight) path. The iron rod is the word of God found in the scriptures.
SINGING Sing “Book of Mormon Stories” (Children’s Songbook, 118).
