YOUTH LESSON ACTIVITY. FRUIT OF THE GOSPEL blessings bookmark representing the Vine and Fruit. Youth can know that God knows us from our actions: “By their fruits ye shall know them” (Matthew 7:20). The Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland’s words are featured here (and more): “For the fruit of the gospel to blossom and bless our lives, we must be firmly attached to Him, the Savior of us all.” Here, youth can write their goals to become close to Him.

Fruit of the Gospel blessings bookmark
Tell the youth that “By their fruits ye shall know them” (Matthew 7:20). On the bookmark they can have the quote by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taken from his talk, “Abide with Me” and “Lifting Burdens” video.
Remind youth that Christ said, “I am the true vine, and . . . ye are the branches. . . . Abide in me, and I in you . . . ” on the bookmark (John 15:1, 4-5). They can write on the bookmark things they will do to bring them closer to the Savior, (VINE) and blessings that come from a close relationship with Him (FRUIT).
TO MAKE Print activity in color or black and white. Fold and glue bookmark back-to-back.
Teach the Doctrine
Prepare Yourself Spiritually
Fruit cannot grow on a branch that is separated from its tree. In the same way, we cannot grow spiritually if we are separated from God (see John 15:4–6). Yet there are so many forces that seek to separate us from Him—sometimes our own pride or poor choices but often just the conditions of mortal life. When Jesus met with His disciples for the last time in mortality, He knew that He would soon be separated from them. So He taught them about the importance of keeping a close connection with Him and His Father—of being as united to them as a branch is to a tree. He called this “abiding” in Him. And He taught His disciples how to do this. Most important of all, through His atoning sacrifice, He made that connection possible.
Ponder your connection with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ as you study John 14–17. Think also about the people you teach and their desires to be closer to God. What will you do to help them? You might ponder Doctrine and Covenants 88:62–68 as you prepare to teach.

TURN OUR FACES TOWARD THE SUN:
To encourage youth to feel the warmth that can come from having Jesus Christ in their lives and to see things clearly with His light, begin by setting up a room with a sun lamp. Talk about repentance and the Atonement. Turn out the lights and talk about Satan’s plan. Tell how some people see physically (the light) but do not see spiritually (the light of Christ). Blindfold the youth, and talk about how some see spiritually but not physically. We can see with our hearts through the Spirit.
YOUTH TESTIMONY SHARING: Ask youth to share their testimony on the lesson subjects below. Click on the QUESTION* next to “Come, Follow Me” Lesson to lead you into a discussion or the sharing of testimonies.
