Priesthood Power Blesses My Life
Letter of Appreciation
Using the “Priesthood Power blesses my life” stationery, encourage youth to write letters of appreciation to their father or other priesthood leaders*. Express gratitude for priesthood leadership and blessings. Youth could write: “Dear Dad or Dear Bishop ___________.” Thank you for being worthy to hold the priesthood of God. Thank you for honoring your priesthood. Your priesthood has blessed my life in the following ways . . ..”
Spotlighting Youth Group. As a youth activity make up a list of all those all of the youth who hold the priesthood in your ward/branch and they could include the bishopric or their fathers or grandfathers. Names can be drawn from a hat as to who writes the letter to whom.
THOUGHT TREAT: Favorite Treat. Have youth secretly find out the favorite treat for the priesthood holder for whom they are spotlighting (writing their letter to). Then provide the treat with this letter.
TO MAKE Print activity in color or black and white.
MUTUAL NIGHT ACTIVITIES, Sunday School, Seminary, or family home evening:
PRIESTHOOD LEADER VISIT: Take youth to visit with the stake president or bishop. Have him describe a typical week in the life of a stake president or bishop. Ahead of time, make a poster card to give to the leader interviewed. Option: Glue candy bars on poster with thank-you notes from youth. Have a question-and-answer time. Have the stake president or bishop express his feelings about his calling and how the youth can help. Present the candy-bar poster card to the stake president or bishop.
TEMPLE PREVIEW INTERVIEW: Ask a member of the stake presidency or bishopric to talk to the youth about the questions asked in a temple-recommend interview. Have him explain why the questions are asked and the importance of always being ready to enter the temple. Talk about the blessings of entering the temple.
PATRIARCHAL BLESSINGS PREVIEW: Invite a patriarch talk to youth about receiving a patriarchal blessing and how they can prepare to receive this blessing.
FATHER’S BLESSING PREVIEW: Ask a few fathers who have given father’s blessings to come. Tell why a father’s blessing is given and the types of blessings that are given to children who are worthy to receive a father’s blessing.
DAD-AND-DAUGHTER NIGHT: Invite the fathers to join their daughters and sons in an evening of games, stories about fathers and daughters/sons, and enjoy refreshments. Choose a theme and design activities around that theme.
