GREAT FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH – Come Follow Me Lessons for: Primary, family home evening, Sunday School, Seminary, Bible Study
LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
Lend a Hand of Support wheel
Description: Youth can spin the wheel to give support or service to the family member the spinner lands on. If landing on “Secret Choice” or “Someone in Need” they choose a family member to do anonymous service.
Youth can share this activity with a family with young children or their own family with younger siblings. Encourage them to lend support to specific members of their family each day by creating and spinning this support wheel.
How to Use Wheel. Each day of the week they can spin the wheel and concentrate on giving support to the person whose name the wheel lands on. If they land on Secret Choice, they choose a family member to show support and love to anonymously. When landing on Someone in Need, they choose a family member they can observe and help where needed. Family members can secretly spin the wheel and give anonymous support to the person they spin.
During a youth activity they can take turns spinning the wheel and sharing ways they can lend support and love to that family member for which the spinner (I will lend a hand of SUPPORT” points to).
TO MAKE: Print activity in color or black and white. Color and cut out wheel and spinner. Attach spinner to wheel with a metal brad at the visual hand/wrist. Punch and tie a string to hang spinner after use.

FAMILY SELF-ESTEEM: Tell youth that we are self-image builders. Before the workshop, have someone who is a builder prepare some precut boards; have nails, hammers, scotch tape, string, and glue available. Have youth in groups build a project without nails. Give them scotch tape, string, and glue. Demonstrate how the finished project is shaky and may not stand up under pressure. Bring out nails and hammer, and proceed to redo the project using nails. The project is now much more sturdy. Discuss our ability to supply “nails” (strong support) in building up others or in building up our self-image. If we supply only tape, glue, or string, the support doesn’t last. Discuss situations that build confidence. Create a favor by nailing two boards together and then nailing this note to the board: “When times get tough and you need to be strong, you can draw on your inner strength. Build up yourself and your family to withstand life’s challenges.”
