Sabbath Day Activity Advent Calendar
OBJECTIVE: To help each youth observe the Sabbath as a day of worship and joy.
ACTIVITY: Sabbath Day Activity Advent Calendar
Challenge the youth to try these 14 activities on the Sabbath Day to keep it holy.
Read instructions on the calendar, “Try an activity and tear off the word-strip below. Then enjoy a treat in the bag* and say, ‘It’s sweet to honor the Sabbath day!’” (See Candy Treat below). Each Sunday you might ask children to share their experiences with the activities.
TO MAKE Print and cut out the Sabbath Day Activity advent calendar for each youth. Cut between each wordstrip so they can fold and tear them off as they do them (not cutting at the top of word-strips). Punch holes at the top of the calendar and tie a 20″ piece of yarn to hang it on the wall.
*Candy Treat: Ahead of time, place 14 pieces of candy in zipping or snap-close plastic bag.
THOUGHT TREAT: Welcomed Wilderness Manna. Serve some bread in the shape of rolls to look like the manna provided by the Lord to the Israelites (Exodus 16:11–15).
SCRIPTURE CARDS: Help children Search and Ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. PRINT this 5 x 7 scripture card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.
