Sentence Search
OBJECTIVE: Activity helps youth learn about My Gospel Standards (commandments they can live so they can prepare to receive the sacred blessings of the priesthood).
This lesson 47* (see below) has been written to help eleven-year-old children understand the blessings and responsibilities of the priesthood. It should be taught before the first child in your class turns twelve.
ACTIVITY: Gospel Standards Sentence Search
Help children learn the 13 Gospel Standards they are asked to follow by completing the following sentence search.
To-Do sentence search: Match the first column lines with the second column lines by writing the number in the center circle. Example: The answer for the first line in the left column is 7 as it matches with #7 in the second column. It reads, I will remember my baptismal covenants and” . . . “listen to the Holy Ghost.”
Answers (see sample shown left): 7, 11, 1, 9, 2 or 8, 2 or 8, 3, 5, 4, 13, 6, 10, 12
TO MAKE Print the Gospel Standards Sentence Search for each child.
THOUGHT TREAT: Peanut Butter Gospel Standard Cookies. Make a batch of peanut butter cookie dough (recipe below) and form into 4″ balls and press down with a knife onto an oiled cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Place 12 chocolate chips around each cookie on the edge and one in the center to represent the 13 gospel standards, and bake at 350̊ 8-10 minutes. Tell children that the chocolate chips represent the 13 gospel standards. As they eat they can name them.
Peanut Butter Cookie Dough: 1/2 cup butter or margarine, 1/2 cup peanut butter, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 3/4 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 4 tablespoons granulated sugar.
SCRIPTURE CARDS: Help children Search and Ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. PRINT this 5 x 7 scripture card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.

When we live the gospel we will be prepared to accept the responsibilities and enjoy the blessings of the priesthood. Read “My Gospel Standards” (My Achievement Days booklet [35317], back cover), pausing after each one to let the children think about how worthily they are living that standard. When you have finished reading the list you may want to review by using illustrations, key words, or pantomimes.
