LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
Great Worth and Value grab bag
ACTIVITY:
1. Read Ether 12:27, then talk about weaknesses and how we can become strong during our trials through reading the scriptures.
2. Share this Great Worth and Value grab bag full of character traits that will bring blessings. Remind youth of this message: “I am of great worth and value, according to my Heavenly Father who knows me perfectly.” See D&C scripture (to match) ⇓
D&C 18:10 “Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God.”
To Use Grab Bag:
1. Ask youth to take turns drawing a character card from the bag. Read the card aloud, and tell what they can do to increase in that value.
2. Read Luke 2:52 and remind youth that Jesus increased in the mental, physical, spiritual, and social areas. Each day He improved.
3. Ask them to turn over each card and write ways they can strengthen their self-worth by acquiring each character trait.
4. Suggest to them that they carry one card in their purse or wallet or post it on their mirror to work on one trait each week.
TO MAKE Print activity in color or black and white; then color.
INDIVIDUAL WORTH TESTIMONIES: Ask youth to share how the gospel of Jesus Christ has given them feelings of individual worth.
VALUE-ABLE NOTE: Write a note to each youth expressing your love and admiration.
P.M.A. SELF-TALK:
1. Talk about having a positive mental attitude and talking to ourselves in a positive way.
2. Have a motivational speaker come to share positive ideas.
3. Have youth gather and write their names at the top of a piece of paper. Pass the papers around, having each youth and leader write a positive thing about the youth. Ask them not to compare notes while they write. Then have each of them look at their paper and add to their list the positive traits they have. Then challenge them to do daily self-talk. Describe it and demonstrate. Examples: Say, “I am a daughter/son of God.” Say this slowly and with emotion. Say, “I am a good listener,” “I am gentle,” “I am attractive,” “I am a good dancer,” etc. Encourage them to look at themselves in the mirror each day and say “I love you.”
