ACTIVITY: D&C 64:10 Forgiveness Bite-size Memorize
Memorize scripture written as a rebus message, and talk about how we can forgive as follows, D&C 64:10 “I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.”
THOUGHT TREAT: Disappearing Candy or Ice Cream. Give youth soft butter mints or candy that melts quickly in the mouth (or ice cream bites). As they eat, talk about how feelings melt quickly when we forgive.
SCRIPTURE CARDS: Help children Search and Ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. PRINT this 5 x 7 scripture card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.
D&C 64:9-10
“Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.
I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.”
The manual suggests that youth study the D&C 64:9-10 (illustrated in the above Bite-size Memorize rebus activity).
Questions to Ask (from the lesson):
How do you feel when someone is unkind to you? How do feelings of anger affect us? Help the children understand that being angry or unkind does not help us feel better. If we remain angry or act unkindly in return, we cause ourselves even more unhappiness. What could you do when someone is unkind to you? (See enrichment activities 1 and 3.) What might happen if you are unkind to the person who was unkind to you? What might happen if you are kind to that person?
