Little LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
Live Valiantly the Gospel of Jesus Christ (poster)
OBJECTIVE: To inspire youth to be like the handcart pioneers and valiantly endure to the end.
ACTIVITY: Valiant Poster
Poster reminds youth to live the gospel of Jesus Christ valiantly. “Valiant” describes both the handcart companies who came into the Salt Lake Valley and us today as we keep the commandments and endure to the end. We can be valiant by being courageous, obedient, loving, kind, loyal, strong, true, faithful, honest, unselfish, patient, righteous, and forgiving (to CHOOSE THE RIGHT).
In this lesson we learn: What can we do to put on the “whole armor” of God? (DOWNLOAD the ARMOR OF GOD activitiy (below* or CLICK HERE ⇒) How have you felt added protection from temptation as you have prayed? studied the scriptures? kept the Sabbath day holy? gone to the temple? honored the priesthood?
What might be the consequences of wearing only part of the Lord’s armor or neglecting to wear it for even a brief time?
Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin of the Quorum of the Twelve warned that Satan “seeks to find any chink in the armor of each person. He knows our weaknesses and knows how to exploit them if we allow him to do so. We can defend ourselves against his attacks and deceptions only by understanding the commandments and by fortifying ourselves each day through praying, studying the scriptures, and following the counsel of the Lord’s anointed” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1988, 44; or Ensign, Nov. 1988, 35).
TO MAKE Print or copy and color the poster for each youth.
THOUGHT TREAT: Valiant Vegetables. Give youth a few fresh, raw vegetables (carrots, celery, broccoli). Provide ranch dressing to dip veggies in.
As you munch, talk about the valiant pioneers who planted crops for those who would follow them on their journey. They had the “pioneer spirit” of leaving behind something of value. As youth what they would like to leave behind to prove that they are valiant servants.
SCRIPTURE CARDS: Help children Search and Ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. PRINT this 5 x 7 scripture card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.
