POST-AND-PRESENT Activity
FOLLOWING JESUS’ FOOTSTEPS
Match and Ponder
OBJECTIVE: Help children learn from Jesus’s example of how they should live, stating how they will follow in Jesus’ footsteps (walking in their own shoes).
ACTIVITY: Talk to children about how Jesus is our Shepherd and we should follow Him. See MORE LESSON IDEAS (below*.)
Testify that Jesus Christ is the only perfect example for us to follow. By following in His footsteps, we can learn to be like Him and feel close to Him. Read Matthew 25:40 “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
Jesus Christ taught us to serve others by helping them, by comforting them as He treats others like Jesus would treat others. He is our greatest example of love and service. “Follow me,” Jesus said. (John 8:12) “I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.”
ACTIVITY:
1. JESUS’ FOOTSTEPS. Have children take turns choosing a Jesus footstep to post on the board. Read the example of Jesus.
2. WALKING IN OUR OWN SHOES. Have another child choose a pair of shoes to post next to the footsteps of Jesus. Have the child say, “I want to follow Jesus’s steps, so I will . . .” and then tell an example of how we can follow in His steps.
CHALLENGE: For smaller children, they can say any action that would be choosing the right. For the older children, they might say something that matched Jesus’ action (found on the footsteps of Jesus). Example: Where Jesus loved his mother and wanted her to be cared for, the child could tell how they too can care for their mother.
