POST-AND-PRESENT Activity
Signs of Jesus’ Second Coming
OBJECTIVE: Help youth learn of the signs that will appear before Jesus’ Second Coming and the signs that will appear after He comes.
TO MAKE Print, color, and cut out the images (shown) and word strips. Put the earth together as instructed and then laminate. Mount the “before” and “after” word strips on the back of the matching signs (as shown). Then laminate signs. Have tape available to mount signs or use magnets.
ACTIVITY:
1. Mount the Signs of Jesus’s Coming world on the board. Tell the youth that it is good news to know that Jesus is coming to the earth again and that more good news will come after He comes. When will Jesus come? Only Heavenly Father knows, but we are going to learn about the signs of Jesus’s Coming—signs that have already happened and signs that will happen to show that He is on His way and that He is here. (See additional lesson helps below.)
2. Tell the youth that just like prophets told of His Coming when Jesus was to be born on the earth, the Prophet Joseph Smith and other prophets have told us of signs to look for when He comes again.
3. Have youth take turns coming up and choosing a sign, reading the back of it (not including the words in parentheses), then posting it on the world poster. Have them post on the left the signs of what will happen before Jesus comes and on the right the signs of what will happen after Jesus comes.
Additional Lesson Helps:
1. The Lord has said, “Be not troubled, for, when all these things [the signs] shall come to pass, ye may know that the promises which have been made unto you shall be fulfilled” (D&C 45:35). He told us not to worry about the calamities but to look forward to the Second Coming of the Savior and be glad.
2. Some of the signs of Jesus’s Second Coming have happened. Others will be fulfilled in the future.
3. We look forward to Jesus’s Coming as a time of peace and joy.
4. But before He comes, the people of the earth will experience great trials and tragedies. Heavenly Father wants us to prepare for these troubles.
5. God has revealed these signs to His prophets. If we are faithful followers of Christ, we will know the signs of His coming and watch for them (see D&C 45:39). We will not be overtaken suddenly as by a “thief in the night,” but those who are in darkness will (Joseph Smith—History 1:37; Joseph Smith—Matthew 1:46–47).
