ACTIVITIES 1 and 2:
Use for Family Home Evening, Primary Sharing Time, Young Women or Youth, Activity Days*
Objective: Learn how to budget and save money. Discuss why it is important to faithfully pay our tithing and how Heavenly Father blesses us when we do (see 3 Nephi 24:10–11). Pay your tithing and begin saving for a mission.
Activity #1 – My Cash Commitment (Envelopes)
1. Print, color, and cut out the My Cash Commitment Envelope labels. Glue labels on envelopes.
2. Write on the labels the percentage of money you will put in each envelope each time you divide your money, e.g., 10% tithing, 30% education, 20% long-term savings (write in goal), 20% short-term savings, 20% spending.
3. Try to pay tithing the Sunday after being paid. If savings amounts are growing, deposit money in a savings account for safety.
Activity #2 – Windows of Heaven (Scripture Chase)
1. Print, color, and cut out a set of Windows of Heaven Scripture Chase cards (shown above).
2. Talk about how the Lord has promised to bless us as we faithfully pay tithing. Read Malachi 3:10 (“open the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it”).
Scripture Chase: Divide into teams. Take turns drawing a card and both teams race to find the scripture. The first team to find it places it in their scriptures to mark their place and earns a point. Take turns reading the scriptures found.
THOUGHT TREAT (Stained Glass Window Cookies). Make cookie dough and cut out windows to fill with candies and bake (see video below where you can link to recipe). Thought: Tell youth that opening the windows of heaven starts by paying tithing as it is an act of faith (see #2 above).
To Make Cookies: See the video “How to Make Stained Glass Cookies with Elizabeth LaBau VIDEO #1 (click): http://video.about.com/homecooking/Stained-Glass-Cookies.htm).
