SCRIPTURE DISCUSSION
2 Nephi 2
In 2 Nephi 2:
verse 3:
• Soul is blessed
• Days spent in service of God
• Redeemed because of the righteousness of our Redeemer who brings salvation to men
verses 6-7:
• Redemption comes to those with a broken heart and a contrite spirit
verse 8:
• We cannot dwell in the presence of God without the Savior making this possible (and also being resurrected)
verse 9:
• Believe in Jesus to be saved
verse 11:
There must be opposition in all things
verse 13: (summarizing agency)
“And if ye shall say there is no law, ye shall also say there is no sin. If ye shall say there is no sin, ye shall also say there is no righteousness. And if there be no righteousness there be no happiness. And if there be no righteousness nor happiness there be no punishment nor misery. And if these things are not there is no God. And if there is no God we are not, neither the earth; for there could have been no creation of things, neither to act nor to be acted upon; wherefore, all things must have vanished away.”
verse 16:
“Wherefore, the Lord God gave unto man that he should act for himself. Wherefore, man could not act for himself save it should be that he was enticed by the one or the other.
verse 17-18:
God allowed the devil, Satan to come down from heaven, and he became miserable forever and sought to make all mankind miserable, the father of lies telling Eve “Partake of the forbidden fruit, and ye shall not die, but ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil.”
verse 21:
God allowed us to come to earth and live in “a state of probation” to repent.
verse 25:
“Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy.”
verse 26:
• Jesus comes to redeem us from the fall to
“know good from evil; to act for themselves ….”
verse 27
“And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself.”

verses 28-30 – KNOW THAT GOD KNOWS US, KNOWS TEMPTATIONS THAT CAN COME, AND TRUSTS US TO FOLLOW HIS ETERNAL PLAN OF HAPPINESS
And now, my sons, I would that ye should look to the great Mediator, and hearken unto his great commandments; and be faithful unto his words, and choose eternal life, according to the will of his Holy Spirit;
And not choose eternal death, according to the will of the flesh and the evil which is therein, which giveth the spirit of the devil power to captivate, to bring you down to hell, that he may reign over you in his own kingdom.
I have spoken these few words unto you all, my sons, in the last days of my probation; and I have chosen the good part, according to the words of the prophet. And I have none other object save it be the everlasting welfare of your souls. Amen.

Families lie at the center of our Heavenly Father’s plan. . . . We need to make our homes a place of refuge from the storm, which is increasing in intensity all about us. Even if the smallest openings are left unattended, negative influences can penetrate the very walls of our homes.”– L. Tom Perry, Apostle, “The Importance of the Family”
SCRIPTURE DISCUSSION
Doctrine and Covenants 82:2-10
“Nevertheless, there are those among you who have sinned exceedingly; yea, even all of you have sinned; but verily I say unto you, beware from henceforth, and refrain from sin, lest sore judgments fall upon your heads.
For of him unto whom much is given much is required; and he who sins against the greater light shall receive the greater condemnation.
Ye call upon my name for revelations, and I give them unto you; and inasmuch as ye keep not my sayings, which I give unto you, ye become transgressors; and justice and judgment are the penalty which is affixed unto my law.
Therefore, what I say unto one I say unto all: Watch, for the adversary spreadeth his dominions, and darkness reigneth;
And the anger of God kindleth against the inhabitants of the earth; and none doeth good, for all have gone out of the way.
And now, verily I say unto you, I, the Lord, will not lay any sin to your charge; go your ways and sin no more; but unto that soul who sinneth shall the former sins return, saith the Lord your God.
And again, I say unto you, I give unto you a new commandment, that you may understand my will concerning you.”
Or, in other words, I give unto you directions how you may act before me, that it may turn to you for your salvation.
I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.”
