NURSERY LESSON 27(and more*)
OBJECTIVE: Tell children that Jesus gave the sacrament to His Apostles before He died on the cross (Luke 22:19-20). He also brought the sacrament to the Nephites (3 Nephi 18:1-11). Today we partake of the sacrament water and bread after a prayer is said so we can think of and remember Jesus and keep His commandments.
POSTER ACTIVITY – Thinking of Jesus Poster
1. Print or copy the activity poster to color.
2. Talk about the poster, saying, “I will think about Jesus.”
• “I will do my best to sing or listen to the sacrament song.” Tell children that the words in the sacrament songs help us think of His love for us. For example, the song “Sacrament” (Children’s Songbook, 72) helps us think of Jesus giving His life for us. We can thank Him when we take the bread and water.
• “I will listen carefully to the sacrament prayers.” Tell children that the sacrament prayers are different from prayers when we bless the food and to listen to them carefully.
• “I will think about the stories of Jesus during the sacrament.” Review story, showing the picture (GAK 322) of Jesus blessing the children (see Luke 18:16; 3 Ne. 17:21–24; He took them one by one and blessed them).
• “I will do my best to always remember Him.” Tell children that when we think of Jesus often, we will try to be like Him. This will make us very happy.
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “If I forget to be reverent during the sacrament, remind me to think about Jesus as I take the bread and water.”
THOUGHT TREAT: Unleavened Bread. Cut a piece of pita bread in fourths and give a piece to each child. Tell them this is the type of bread Jesus gave to His Apostles when He gave them the first sacrament.
SINGING for Nursery Lesson 27 and Sunbeam Lesson 40 – The Sacrament Helps Me Think about Jesus: Sing “Jesus Loved the Little Children,” “Jesus Said Love Everyone,” and “Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam” (Children’s Songbook, 40, 61, 60).
