OBJECTIVE: Help children understand that good music can help us feel happy and remind us of Heavenly Father and Jesus.
Sing with children. Sing “If You’re Happy” (Children’s Songbook, 266). For fun action activity, go to the same song in the Super Little Singers book (159) or CD-ROM.
POSTER ACTIVITY – I Love Music!
1. Print or copy the activity poster to color.
2. Talk about poster, saying, “I love music!”
• Talk about music, the melody that helps us sing the songs. For older children, play “Name that Tune” by having them guess as you hum familiar tunes.
• Strike up a band by making instruments* ahead of time: bang a drum, shake a shaker, or ring bells.
• Use the Stop and Go signs* to direct the band.
• Go Fish with children to choose a song using fish visuals*.
• For great singing and music playing, award children with a colored pencil or singing awards*.
*See Super Little Singers book or CD-ROM to make: Band Concert Instruments (p. 161), Stop and Go signs (p. 168, 185-86), Go Fish visuals (p. 163), and Super Singer Awards (p. 168).
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “Let’s listen to music together! Help me know what kind of music makes me feel happy and helps me think of Heavenly Father and Jesus.”

THOUGHT TREAT: Love-note bread. Using a can of cheese, draw a few heart-shaped love notes (see above) on bread (crust trimmed off). Tell children that these are music notes that tell us how to play a tune. Hum a familiar tune. When we learn the Primary songs, we are listening to good music that makes us feel good.
