LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
My Change of Heart Steps mobile
OBJECTIVE: This two-sided mobile will show youth the four steps King Benjamin’s people took to have a change of heart (see Mosiah 5:2, 5).
See Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon
Mosiah 4–5 (April 20–26) A Mighty Change of Heart
“The people believed and bound themselves to King Benjamin’s words, whereupon the Lord answered the second part of their prayer—that “[their] hearts may be purified.” In gratitude and praise, the people cried out, “The Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent … has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually” (Mosiah 5:2). King Benjamin explained that this mighty change meant they had been born of God (see Mosiah 5:7).”
Also, see Alma 5:14-15 “Have ye spiritually been born of God? Have ye received his image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hearts?”
Four Change of Heart Steps 1-4:
1. I will learn about Christ and His commandments.
2. I will have faith in Christ and believe in His Atonement.
3. I will ask for forgiveness and be forgiven through the Lord’s mercy.
4. I will make a covenant to keep the commandments and do good all my days.
TO MAKE:
Print activity in color or black and white in two different colors on cardstock (one side will be different from the other; making it easier to see the right message as mobile turns).
To Assemble Mobile:
1. Lay the My Change of Heart Steps #1 and 2 a half-inch apart facedown. See preparation steps 1-4 below.
2. Place a 2-inch piece of string down the center, taping the string to the #1 and 2 pieces on the blank side.
3. Lay and glue steps 3 and 4 faceup over the matching steps 1 and 2 pieces. Make sure the long piece of the string is at the top to hang the mobile.
To Move Mobile: Mobile pieces can turn with string, giving a different message that could match the one on the other side if turned around.
MUTUAL NIGHT OR FAMILY NIGHT ACTIVITIES:
TUG AT THE HEARTSTRINGS: Have an evening of poetry reading at someone’s house and feel your heartstrings being tugged. Use soft lights and music to set a relaxed mood. Also, read selected scriptures that show heartfelt emotion. Encourage youth to really think about this and come prepared with their favorite poetry, hymns, or scriptures to read, especially those relating to Jesus and His love for us that brings hope and peace.
“CHANGE OF HEART” ROLE-PLAY: Have youth team up and visit the ward library to find an article that expresses a change of heart. Have them rehearse and then act out the story in a five-minute play for the other youth. Act while one person reads parts of the story.
