Joyful Soul tent-card challenge – D&C 18:13

Help youth memorize D&C 18:13 and talk about the joy that comes to the soul when one repents. Verse:
“And how great is his joy in the soul that repenteth!”

1. On the back of the tent-card, write things you want to change in your thoughts and actions on tent-card.

2. Talk of great men and women who repented and found joy, like Alma the Younger. Alma and the sons of Mosiah were promised eternal life (Mosiah 28:1-9).

THOUGHT TREAT: Remembrance Fruit Roll-ups. Give youth a piece of fruit leather rolled up with a string attached, or inside a package. Tell them that before they “roll” into bed at night, think of things they may have done during the day that they need to repent of and ask Heavenly Father for forgiveness. Then after they “roll” out of bed in the morning, pray that they can keep the commandments.

Mutual Night Activities - Come Follow Me, Young Women, Lesson Activities, Young Adult Activities, GospelGrabBag.comMUTUAL NIGHT OR FAMILY NIGHT ACTIVITIES:

MIGHTY CHANGE OF HEART:
Tell youth: “You can never really change until you change your heart! A changed heart is a repentant heart.” Talk about the mighty change of heart in the Book of Mormon. Have a special skit dramatizing a story in the Book of Mormon, e.g., Alma the Younger. Serve heart-shaped cupcakes or heart-shaped pancakes with strawberry syrup, strawberries, and whipped cream. Make notes on hearts and then stick them on dozens of cars in the church parking lot on Sunday or in the mailbox of a special friend.

INNER AND OUTER BEAUTY PERSONALITY PLUS WORKSHOP:
Focus on the positive, asking youth and youth leaders to bring ideas to share that will help us look on the bright side.

Ideas:  • Practice smiling three times each day  • Greet the day with a song  • Look for reasons to be happy • Read the scriptures daily  • Pray for guidance in your decisions  • Repent of wrongdoings and resolve to change  • Begin by changing your thoughts

How to Change Your Thoughts: It takes just fifteen seconds to change your negative impression into a positive thought. Take the first five seconds to decide that you do not want that negative thought to enter your mind. Then take the next five seconds to think of positive thought. Take the last five seconds to repeat that positive thought in your mind.
