SPIRITUAL
Youth GOAL

RECEIVE REVELATION
The Lord will light my path as I strive to follow Him.

Goal Ideas

With this Candle of the Lord scripture word search activity, youth will realize that the Lord will light their path as they strive to follow Him. The scriptures in the search will help them prepare to receive revelation which is received through the Holy Ghost.

Inspiration

“One thing the Lord said was: ‘I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart. Now, behold, this is the spirit of revelation.’ (D&C 8:2–3.)

This revelation speaks of Spirit speaking to spirit—the Holy Spirit speaking to the spirit within me and in a way incomprehensible to the mind, but plain and clear to spiritual understanding—conveying knowledge, giving intelligence, giving truth, and giving sure knowledge of the things of God. Now this applies to everyone.” – How to Get Personal Revelation, Elder Bruce R. McConkie, Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

OBJECTIVE:
1. Help youth realize that the Lord will light their path as they strive to follow Him (take upon His name).
2. To learn how they can prepare to receive revelation, look up the scriptures and fill in the blanks. This light is received through the still small voice of the Holy Ghost.

ACTIVITY: To do the fill-in-the-blank puzzle look up the scriptures and fill in the missing words. Then ponder each scripture and discuss how prayer will help increase our desire to follow Jesus and to be a light to others like He is.

ANSWERS:

1. Matthew 7:7-8 “ask” Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you …

2.James 1:5-7 “faith” or “ask God” If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally …

3. James 1:5-7 “study it out” But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind

4. Alma 37:37 “Counsel with the Lord” Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day.

5. 1 Nephi 17:45 “still small voice” Ye are swift to do iniquity but slow to remember the Lord your God. Ye have seen an angel, and he spake unto you; yea, ye have heard his voice from time to time; and he hath spoken unto you in a still small voice, but ye were past feeling, that ye could not feel his words; wherefore, he has spoken unto you like unto the voice of thunder, which did cause the earth to shake as if it were to divide asunder.

Thought Treats for lesson activitiesTHOUGHT TREAT: Eternity Bagel. Bring bagels with cream cheese spread, and point out that a bagel resembles a ring, which symbolizes eternity, having no beginning and no end. We will continue our life even after death. Which life will we choose? Because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, everyone will live forever. But not everyone will have eternal life, to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus. We obtain eternal life by obeying all of the commandments and receiving guidance through personal revelation from the Holy Ghost.

For Church or Family

PERSONAL REVELATION TESTIMONY TIME: Have youth take a few moments to look within themselves, then bear their testimonies. Discuss how personal revelation comes when we live the commandments and seek the Spirit through prayer, and fasting.

For Young Women (can do same for men with men in the scriptures)
SPIRITUAL WOMAN SPOTLIGHT:
Spotlight women in the scriptures who have received revelation. Talk about these experiences and how we too can rely on the Spirit to guide us. Examples of Women in the Scriptures:
• Abish—Lamanite woman, servant of Lamoni (see Alma 19:16-17, 28-29). Already a convert, she is there when the king, queen, and others in the household fall to the earth; she calls people to the king’s house; then awakens the queen when the people become fearful.
• Anna—prophesied of Jesus’ mission, served God in the temple, fasted and prayed day and night (see Luke 2:36-38).
• Queen Esther—had great faith, asking the Jews to fast for her (see Esther 4-5).

LIGHT OF CHRIST BY CANDLELIGHT: Have youth each bring their favorite dish or treat and their favorite thought about Jesus. Then eat then by candlelight. Have several large candles in the center while youth sit around and pass the treats. Talk about lighting your way by following the light of Jesus Christ. Talk about how everyone is born with that light, and how obtaining the gift of the Holy Ghost we have that added light, a constant companionship to guide us.

REVELATION REVEAL: Have youth bring their favorite quote from a general conference (found in the Ensign) or other Church magazines Reveal why this was so inspirational taking 1-2 minutes to read and discuss each. Then collect these to place in a notebook entitled Revelation Reveal and the year. Then each year youth can have the same meeting only bring a different inspirational quote. This way they can add to the collection and add an additional year to the folder. With these, they will always have something their peers and they found inspiration. These will be needed in the Latter-days when trials come.
