YOUTH LESSON ACTIVITY. CREATE FAMILY TIES! unity checklist. Youth can read Mosiah 18:8-9 then discuss the advantages of serving your family. Write on the checklist things to do to create this unity. This would help with a marriage or family life before marriage. Know from the scripture that we are “willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light.” Also, Mourn, comfort, and stand as a witness of God.

The list could include things the Prophet Alma said to the people who were being baptized in the waters of Mormon, found in Mosiah 18:8-9:

“And it came to pass that he said unto them: Behold, here are the waters of Mormon (for thus were they called) and now, as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light;

Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life.”

TO MAKE print activity in color or black and white. To decorate checklist, tie a piece of rope or raffia and glue it on the checklist (if printed or copied on cardstock paper).

Mutual Night Activities - Come Follow Me, Young Women, Lesson Activities, Young Adult Activities, GospelGrabBag.comMUTUAL NIGHT, Family Home Evening, Sunday School, or Seminary ACTIVITIES:

THOUGHT TREAT: Family Ties – Licorice Rope. Purchase licorice string-ropes and tie two pieces together or tie a knot in the center of one piece. Tell youth that the more time they spend with their family, sharing thoughts and feelings, reading the scriptures, having family home evening, family prayer, and great meals together, the more they can create family ties. The memories they create will endure. This way everyone’s family can be unified and strong. If they want to spend a lot of time with their friends, invite them to family activities and invite family to friend-activities.

BITE-MY-TONGUE: Tell youth that biting their tongue begins at home. Ask them, “Is this true or false?  ‘Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me.’” Give each a twig with this saying printed on an attached tag. Find poetry or an article about biting words that hurt. Serve a yummy dessert that they can help make, like a sundae, etc. Talk about the term “bite your tongue,” and what it means. Discuss the short-term and long-term consequences of not biting our tongues when we need to. Discuss situations that may come up with family and friends, and what you might say in place of hurtful words.

FAMILY-FUN-FAVORITES NIGHT: Have youth bring a family member or extended family member to this activity. Have them take turns sharing and talking about a family favorite activity or tradition. Share favorite foods (tasting table) and recipes.

FAMILY-FUN-ACTIVITY CARD FILE OR NOTEBOOK: Have youth bring their ideas, and review articles and books that give ideas on family fun.
Ideas:  • Have a seasonal party.  • Share holiday traditions with family.
• Create food that fits the season. • Have family start an ABC book of activities that start with letters of the alphabet (e.g., On “M” week they can go to a movie, eat M&M candies and munch on popcorn).
