Use For: CHURCH and HOME children and youth activities.
ACTIVITY DAYS Activity – Developing Talents Goal 5:
I Love Cultural Arts frame or journal page
Visit an art museum or attend a concert, play, or other cultural event. Share your experience with your family or activity day group.
Theme: I Love Cultural Arts
INVITATION
Invite Activity Days youth to this activity using invitation.
For This Same Invitation: Use to invite youth to anytime activity where they might need a ticket like this one.
Ideas: Have a summer Family Fun Day Carnival (or a fall or winter event) you can have through your ward or stake where the Activity Days youth are in charge of one or two booths. Of course this is “just the ticket” invitation to invite them.
BOOTH GAME IDEAS: (1) Have a lawn with a tarp and water to slide down (on a hot day). (2) Have a face-painting booth or one where you make flower head bands or friendship bracelets. (3) Have a charity booth where you make packets for the homeless. Everyone can bring a donation for their admittance.
PREPARATION FOR ACTIVITY:
• Print invitations, color, and give out a week ahead or have them ready to give to youth at a current activity, inviting them to the next.
• Have youth who are more active take the invitation to those less active.
ASSIGN TREATS:
• See matching THOUGHT TREATS below each activity.
• Have youth share their favorite recipes with you and you could make them during Activity Days or have them make them ahead to share.
• With the Activity Days budget have youth help you plan treats ahead for the next activity – hopefully treats that go along with the goal or lesson theme.
. . . ACTIVITY DAYS PLANNER . . .
I Love the Cultural Arts! (picture frame, planner, or journal page)
1. Print and color the I Love the Cultural Arts Frame/Journal.
2. Review the 13th Article of Faith and think of ways you can add to your life and to the lives of others through cultural arts. Many of these are found in the frame.
3. Attend a cultural event. Then use the Cultural Arts! Frame/Journal to record your experiences and/or display photos of a cultural event you attended.
Cultural Art Activity Ideas:
• Museum Show-and-Tell: At a museum, divide your group into two groups to scope out the museum in sections. Then get together and show the other group what you discovered, having several girls act as the tour guides for their portion of the museum. Take photos to place on the I Love Cultural Arts! frame/journal page (above) and write about your findings and experience.
• Teach Dance Steps: Have someone come and teach the basics: ballet, western swing, line dancing, square dancing, folk dance, ballroom, disco, break dancing, and more.
• Have a Casual Talent Night: Find an interest or talent from each girl to spotlight. Have girls share their talents, e.g., piano, flute, guitar, craft skill, cooking demos, singing, scrapbooks, crafts. Display items made and have them tell about their hobbies and interests and how they got started.
• Vintage Movie Night: Bring a favorite black and white or colored vintage/classic movie to share or enjoy an animated movie together.
• Go to a local play.
• Put on a play for the next ward party.
THOUGHT TREATS: (Self-Portrait Cookies). Roll out and cut out sugar-cookie dough into a 5″ x 6″ square. Using cookie paints (2 drops of food coloring in 2 tablespoons of canned milk), paint a self-portrait and bake.
