ACTIVITY DAYS PLANNER
Dough Art From the Heart (create heart-shaped bread)
1. Print the recipe for basic bread, pizza, and pretzels.
2. Quiz. Get together with Activity Day girls and write how to make bread from what they know now. Imagine the recipe step by step and write it down without help from anyone or looking at a recipe. Now compare notes and read the recipes aloud.
3. Discuss Value of Work. Tell story and talk about the folk tale The Little Red Hen, about a hen who worked very hard to make bread. Knowing all the steps it takes to make bread helps you appreciate every bite.
4. Dough Art. Say, “Dough art comes from the heart, because it takes a lot of effort to make homemade bread. This is one way to show your family your love because of the time and energy you spent making something for them they will enjoy.”
5. Demo. Have someone demonstrate making the basic bread recipe. Then make pizza, heart-shaped pretzels, and braided bread. Have some dough already raised, ready to form into bread shapes.
Hint: Shaped dough can be frozen on a baking sheet and then placed in a bag for future baking. Once dough rounds are frozen, they won’t stick together, but you should separate them before thawing. Thaw frozen bread 1 to 2 hours (depending on the temperature in your room) before baking.
THOUGHT TREAT (Heart-Shaped Bread). Follow recipes.

I have the ‘Primary Partners Faith in God Super Activity Days and Socials’ book (printed in 2007). We are planning to do the Dough Art lesson, but when we started to print off the recipes for the girls, I noticed that the “Basic Bread Recipe” has nothing to make it raise. I am guessing that it would be yeast but would like to confirm that with you and also get the amount so we can add it to the recipe before we print it. We plan to do it this Wednesday so we need your help soon. To be ready for Activity Days we need to have the handout copied off.
Thank you for your help!
