Little LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
Humble Henry humility search
OBJECTIVE: To encourage the children to be humble and have faith in Jesus Christ. See the lesson (in the blue banner below).
ACTIVITY: Humble Henry humility search
Help children learn about the type of person whose thoughts and actions show they are HUMBLE or NOT HUMBLE (PROUD).
Find Humble Henry: Draw a line from the words on the right to the Henry it describes best.
The manual suggests reading to the children randomly words that describe a HUMBLE or NOT HUMBLE action. To vote for HUMBLE do a thumbs up and NOT HUMBLE do a thumbs down.
TRAITS:—HUMBLE: teachable, confident, thoughtful, helpful, respectful, patient, understanding, grateful, obedient, and gentle.
TRAITS—NOT HUMBLE: proud, self-righteous, snobbish, boastful, vain, conceited, critical, hard-hearted, unchanging, selfish
TO MAKE: Print and cut out the Humble Henry humility search for each child.
THOUGHT TREAT. “Be Humble” Pie. Stick two gumdrop ears into a piece of pie. Tell children that if we listen to others and allow them to teach us, then we are being humble and we can learn God’s ways. If we are not humble or teachable, we may end up eating “humble pie.” This means that we are forced to admit that we are wrong, which will make us humble the painful way.
Jesus taught about HUMILITY to His disciples when they asked, “Who is the greatest in the kindgom of heaven?” Jesus called a little child to come to Him and chided them, saying: “Whosoever … shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 18:1, 4).
