Lesson 37 – Josiah and Ezra Read the Scriptures to the People

TO FIND LESSON: Present Lesson 37 – Primary 6 Manual – Old Testament: Josiah and Ezra Read the Scriptures to the People.
OBJECTIVE: To teach the children that reading and following the counsel of the scriptures brings joy. Read the Conclusion Testimony section at the end of the manual for which this activity illustrates: Share your feelings about the great blessing the scriptures are in your life and the joy and peace they bring to you as you remember to obey Heavenly Father’s laws. Encourage the children to read the scriptures regularly at home.
ACTIVITY: Scripture-Blessings Sticker Challenge
Help children discover the importance of reading the scriptures and the blessings that come from reading the scriptures and keeping the commandments. Read the two scriptures for each day starting with Sunday. Decide which scripture tells you to “read” the scriptures and which scripture tells you the “blessings” that come from reading the scriptures and obeying the commandments. Glue a “Read!” or a “Blessing!” sticker to the right of each scripture.

TO MAKE: Print and cut out the Scripture-Blessings Sticker Challenge for each child.
THOUGHT TREAT (when appropriate): Standard Works Cookies. Break one four-piece graham cracker into four pieces for each child. Frost between layers, stacking four cracker pieces together. Tell children that the scriptures consist of the four standard works: The Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price. Discuss how these differ from each other.
