LESSON LIFESAVER Activity:
Choose the Right (CTR Tools Choose the Right Match Game)
Use For: Primary, Sunday School, Youth Doctrinal Classes, family scripture study, and children and youth goals
OBJECTIVE: Help youth recognize tools or special help that Heavenly Father has given them to keep their baptismal covenants and to keep the commandments.
TO MAKE: Using cardstock, print or copy images that follow. If printing the color version, simply cut out images and laminate them. For the black-and-white version, color cut out, and laminate. Cut a slit on the toolbox dashed lines. Tape the toolbox on the board or mount it to a poster, taping or gluing the sides only and leaving the slit pocket open. Place tools in the pocket of the toolbox. Place wordstrips in a container.
ACTIVITY:
1. Tell the youth that Heavenly Father has given us special help or tools to help us choose the right and keep our baptismal covenant. They will help us FIX PROBLEMS. They are PARENTS, TEACHERS, LEADERS, SCRIPTURES, PRAYER, and FASTING. Show tools in the CTR Tools box.
2. Have youth come up one at a time draw a problem wordstrip and read it.
3. Have the youth decide which tools they would use to help them keep their baptismal covenant and the commandments.
4. Ask the youth to tell why they chose the tool or tools and how they will help fix the problem.
5. Have each youth place the wordstrip in a separate container and place the tools back into the CTR Tools toolbox.
THOUGHT TREAT: CTR Wafer Cookies. Write the letters CTR on a wafer cookie for each youth, using a tube of frosting. Tell Youth:
• These CHOOSE THE RIGHT tools will help us keep our baptismal covenants.
• There is a gate that leads to the “strait” and narrow path that leads to heaven. See the definition of “strait” below*. Baptism is that gate. After baptism, we are on the “strait” and narrow path.
• If we continue using the CTR tools, e.g., reading the scriptures, listening to parents and teachers, and fasting and praying we can stay on the path and find happiness in our journey.
SCRIPTURE TO MEMORIZE: Memorize the Psalm 119:105. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
