PRIMARY MUSIC SINGING TIME ACTIVITIES to Motivate Children to Sing
SING-FROM-THE-HEART watch heart grow – singing meter
9 pages (color/black-and-white visuals and instructions)
DESCRIPTION: Tell children, “This singing meter is to see if you can Sing from the Heart! So, let’s give it all you’ve got! Watch the hearts grow as you sing better and better.”
To Make: Print, color, and cut out the hearts. Mount the #3 heart parts A and B together. Laminate. Place a ribbon or string through the first heart to place around a child’s neck. Obtain double-sided tape to mount visuals (heart-to-heart).
To Use:
1. Introduce activity.
2. Place the Sing from the Heart piece around a leader’s or child’s neck who will judge the quality of singing.
3. As children sing with all their heart, better and better, tape heart 1 behind the smallest heart, then tape heart 2 to the back of heart 1 and then heart 3 to the back of heart 2, to show that their heart can swell with testimony as they sing.
Anytime – Special Time Ideas: This will encourage children to sing anytime, but also for special occasions, e.g., Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or the sacrament-meeting presentation.
