GROUP BRAINSTORMING ACTIVITY. I WILL BE A SERV”ANT” toss and tell. Youth can know that by serving others they are serving God (Mosiah 2:17). Players can TOSS a bean or a raisen (as it looks like an ant) into the ANT sack and TELL a way to serve a person, or group of people, or animal. If playing in teams earn a point for the most tossed into the sack (distance according to age).

GOSPEL GAMES Activity
I will Be a Serv”ant” (Toss and Tell)
YOUTH can teach this lesson to children.
Objective: Help children/youth know that when they serve others, they are serving God (see Mosiah 2:17). With this game, children can spontaneously name ways to serve.

TO MAKE VISUALS: Print, color, and cut out the “I Will Be a Serv’ant’!” label parts A and B. Place label pieces together and mount on a brown paper sack (rolling down the top of the sack), as shown.
You will also need a sack of raisins. Optional Take-Home Treat: Give children a box of raisins to take home, reminding them to think of ways to serve as they eat the ants (raisins).
TOSS AND TELL ACTIVITY: To do the activity, place the Serv”ant” Sack 2–3 feet away from the children/youth (behind a line – taped on the floor). Give each child three raisins, telling them the raisins look like ants. Have them toss the raisins into the sack to see if they can be good Serv”ant”s. Before tossing the three ants, have them tell one way they can serve others, including their families (serving God). Give each child a point for each raisin/ant tossed into the sack. Divide into teams to play, awarding points at the end.
STORY / VIDEO: You may want to consider showing the video “The Coat: A Story of Charity” (See video below.) This is a true story of President Heber J. Grant. Or tell the story one of God’s prophets: “President Heber J. Grant’s father died when President Grant was just nine days old. His mother was very poor and earned money by sewing for other people. Sometimes she sewed for so many hours without resting that she could hardly push the pedal of her sewing machine. Heber would often crawl under the sewing machine to push the pedal for her. The winters were very cold, and Heber had only a thin, worn coat to keep him warm. He longed to have a warm coat but knew they barely had enough money for food. He was delighted on his birthday when his mother gave him a warm coat she had sewn. It was his most prized possession. A few weeks later, Heber saw a boy shivering with cold, and he remembered how it felt. He took off his new coat and gave it to the boy”(Outline for 2014 Sharing Time—September Week 2).

THOUGHT TREAT ANTS ON A LOG. Give children/youth a piece of celery with peanut or almond butter and top with raisins (ants). Talk about how industrious ants are – they truly work hard to make their little communities. They seldom stop.
