Prophets Speak – Conference Sweet Words Buzz Session
YOUTH can teach this lesson to children.
Objective: Help children/youth gain a desire to listen carefully to the prophet and apostles at general conferences. Also, the Friend, Era, and Lianona or Ensign Church magazines.
TO MAKE VISUALS: Print, color, and cut out one Sweet Words honey pot and a bee for each class or group (colored cardstock paper). Also, copy the bee tag for THOUGHT TREAT below.
ACTIVITY: Have a general conference buzz session with children/youth to recall Sweet Words from the prophets and apostles.
Ahead of Time: Find some Sweet Words from a general conference that you can give to class/leaders to help children/youth know what to write on their bee (if they can’t come up with ideas on their own).
1. Post the Sweet Words honey pot on the center of the board.
2. Give each class a bee and ask them to have a buzz session. Have them write on the back of the bee what they remember or have learned at General Conference. Write words they have heard the prophet, apostles, or general authorities say.
3. Have children/youth from each class come up and read what they have learned, written on the back of the bee.
4. Place bee on board next to the honey pot.
5. Make a note and discuss some of the subjects they have mentioned in detail.
TESTIMONY SHARING: Ask children/youth to share their testimony on the following: Ideas: Why is it important to listen to and follow the living prophets? We sustain the members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators. Their teachings reflect the will of the Lord. They give us instruction, warnings, and counsel from the Lord for our day. We are blessed with safety, peace, and spiritual strength when we listen to and obey their counsel.

THOUGHT TREAT: Honey Taffy (reward for listening carefully). Make or purchase honey taffy. Share a piece with children/youth and attach the tag (found in the patterns) with an extra piece of taffy to take home. Tag reads: “Let’s buzz over to watch general conference to listen to the prophet’s sweet words.”
Make Honey Taffy by boiling 1 pint of honey 5 – 8 minutes (checking soft-ball stage by placing water in a cup and dropping some boiling honey into a cup – to see if it forms a soft – firm ball). Pour onto a buttered cookie sheet and stir with a spatula, adding 1/4 – 1/2 cup butter (a must) so taffy doesn’t get hard. Then when cool enough to pick up form into long strips onto waxed paper and cool 5 minutes then cut into pieces.
To Attach Tag: Wrap taffy pieces individually in waxed paper, twisting at both ends. Paper punch note and thread yarn through to tie on wrapped taffy.
