Little LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
My heart will not fail me. I will be prepared for Jesus’ coming! – strong heart mobile
OBJECTIVE: To help youth look forward to and prepare for the second coming of Jesus Christ and the Millennium.
ACTIVITY: Strong Heart Mobile. This mobile shows youth ways they can be strong. It reminds them that if their thoughts are centered around Jesus Christ, and if they keep Him in their heart at all times, they will be ready when He comes again.
See the matching lesson below (enrichment activity 1)* for which this activity illustrates.
TO MAKE: Print or copy, color, and cut out the heart set for each youth on cardstock paper. NOTE: If printing in color you are okay, however, if printing in black-and-white we suggest you use two different colors so one side of the mobile is one color and the other side is another color. You’ll need string, tape, and glue.
TO ASSEMBLE MOBILE: Lay the “My ♥ (heart) will not . . .” side facedown with the pieces 1/2-inch apart. Place a 2-inch string down the center and tape to strips (still, 1/2-inch apart). Glue the second set of heart strips to the first set of heart strips (that are facedown). Parts move left and right. Hang mobile.
THOUGHT TREAT: Heart-Shaped Candy (cinnamon hearts or gummy hearts). Tell the youth, “If your heart is honest in wanting to keep the commandments, you will find a peaceful warm feeling in your heart.”

Doctrine and Covenants 29:10-11
“For the hour is nigh, and that which was spoken by mine apostles must be fulfilled; for as they spoke so shall it come to pass;
For I will reveal myself from heaven with power and great glory, with all the hosts thereof, and dwell in righteousness with men on earth a thousand years, and the wicked shall not stand.”

-
Suggested Lesson Development
Invite a child to give the opening prayer.
Enrichment Activities
You may use one or more of the following activities any time during the lesson or as a review, summary, or challenge.
The above activity STRONG-HEART mobile illustrates the following:
-
Prepare the following wordstrips describing ways we should prepare for the Second Coming and the Millennium (see D&C 43:20–23; 45:32, 57):
Let a child choose a wordstrip, read it to the class, and display it on the chalkboard, table, or floor. Discuss with the children what the phrase on the wordstrip means and how they can prepare themselves in that way (for example, to “stand in holy places,” the children can live worthy to enter the temple, attend church, stay away from places with bad influences, and help keep a good feeling in their homes).
-
Write the following words or phrases on cards: Adam-ondi-Ahman, Second Coming, Millennium, Be Prepared. Turn the cards face down on the table or floor. Have the children take turns choosing a card and telling one thing they learned about that subject from the lesson. Have each child return the card and mix the cards up before the next child takes one. Continue until each child has had at least one turn and all the subjects have been discussed.
-
Make a copy of the drawings at the end of the lesson for each child, or draw similar illustrations on the chalkboard. Explain that each of these drawings represents one of the signs that will appear before the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Have each child look up one or more of the following scriptures and identify which drawing represents the sign mentioned in the scripture:
Assure the children that if we are trying to live the gospel, we do not need to fear the Second Coming. We will be protected so that we can do the things Heavenly Father wants us to do for him, and we can look forward to being with Jesus Christ again.
-
Help the children memorize or review the tenth article of faith.
-
Sing or say the words to “When He Comes Again” (Children’s Songbook, p. 82).
