PRIMARY MUSIC SINGING TIME ACTIVITIES to Motivate Children to Sing
KEYWORD CONNECTION pick-a-song to match keyword
5 pages (color/black-and-white visuals and instructions)
DESCRIPTION: Children will be using their thinking caps after they draw out a keyword and then think of a related song to sing!
Objective: Use this to help children choose a Primary song or hymn to sing that matches the keyword.
TO MAKE:
1. Cut out the Keyword Connection label and keywords.
2. Mount the label on a wide-mouth bottle or container.
3. Place keyword wordstrips inside.
TO USE:
1. Choose children one at a time to draw a keyword from the container and read it aloud.
2. The child then tries to think of a song that relates to that keyword.
Tell children that the keywords can be a word in the song or the title. Or they can look for the keywords in the Children’s Songbook Index or Titles and First Lines. Examples: If the keyword “Families” is chosen, the child might choose “Families Can Be Together Forever,” or the song “Family Night.”
The keyword does not have to be in the title. If the child wants to sing “I see my mother kneeling with our family each day,” look in the Titles and First Lines Index. The words begin the song “Love Is Spoken Here (page 190)”.
