Reading the quote from the Prophet Spencer W. Kimball to provide oil for their lamps “DROP BY DROP IN RIGHTEOUS LIVING.” Then they can be ready like the five virgins in the parable: Ready for the bridegroom (Jesus).

To Play: Divide youth into two teams (or two players competing). Give each a coin or button marker to place on START. Teams/Players take turns drawing and reading a word-strip aloud. Follow instructions, e.g., “move one”, “move back”, “lose a turn”). The first team to make it to the end (Second Coming) wins!

TO MAKE Print in color (or color page). Print and cut out wordstrips and place in a container. Provide two different coins or buttons for markers.

THOUGHT TREAT: Second Helping of Second Coming Mints. Give youth a few mints and talk about the Second Coming of Jesus. Say, “Jesus ‘mint’ for all of us to live with Heavenly Father again.” Give them a second helping of mints and say, “Jesus wants us to prepare for His coming so we can have blessings of eternal life (to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus again). We don’t know when He will come, so let’s try each day to live the commandments so we will be ready.”

Matthew 25:1-4, 13

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.”

Youth can know

Tell youth about the second coming of Jesus Christ:

• Read Acts 1:9-11 with youth to know how His disciples knew they would see Him again. Talk about: Angels telling how they would see Him again.

• Read Matthew 24:36 with youth to know when Jesus would come again. Talk about Heavenly Father knowing.

DOWNLOAD 1 Thessalonians 5:2-6 scripture poster/card set (HERE or below).

• Read D&C 29:11 on what will happen when Jesus comes. Talk about the 1,000 years called the millennium.

How do we keep our lamps lit and burning so we are prepared for the coming of Jesus? We can encourage someone to prepare, but we cannot prepare for them and give them a testimony. They must obtain it on our own as we do DROP BY DROP By:
• Serving others,
• Scripture study & learning the gospel,
• Praying,
• Being kind,
• Paying tithing,
• Keeping commandments to be worthy of inspiration, and
• Sharing our testimonies.

Read D&C 76:62-63 and talk about how the righteous will be with Jesus when He comes again, dwell in the presence of Heavenly Father and Jesus forever.

Sing “When He Comes Again.”

Ask youth to imagine Jesus saying to them, “You’ve served me well. Come into my arms to stay.”

Discuss President Spencer W. Kimball’s Ideas:

“In our lives, the oil of preparedness is accumulated drop by drop in righteous living.

• Attendance at sacrament meetings adds oil to our lamps, drop by drop over the years.
• Fasting, family prayer, home teaching, control of bodily appetites,
• Preaching the gospel,
• Studying the scriptures

—each act of dedication and obedience is a drop added to our store.

• Deeds of kindness,
• Payment of offerings and tithes,
• Chaste thoughts and actions,
• Marriage in the covenant for eternity

—these, too, contribute importantly to the oil with which we can at midnight refuel our exhausted lamps”

(Faith Precedes the Miracle, p. 256).

Discuss President Spencer W. Kimball’s Ideas:

“The ten virgins belonged to the kingdom and had every right to the blessings—except that five were not valiant and were not ready when the great day came.

They were unprepared through not living all the commandments.

They were bitterly disappointed at being shut out from the marriage—as likewise their modern counterparts [members today who are not prepared] will be”

(The Miracle of Forgiveness, p. 8).
