OBJECTIVE: Help children/youth increase their faith in Jesus Christ that He will help them in times of adversity with this scripture reminder.
ACTIVITY: Adversity Lightswitch Cover
Help children know they can be like King Limhi and his people and Alma and his people, who received help from Jesus Christ as they kept the commandments and asked for His help. Read Mosiah 21:31 and Mosiah 23:22.
LIGHT SWITCH BUDDY READS: My faith in Jesus Christ will help in times of ADVERSITY. Share while giving the lesson: 1 Nephi 17:13. “And I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led.”
TO MAKE Print in color or black-and-white on cardstock, color and cut out the lightswitch cover for each child/youth. If they have only one light switch, the large cover can be placed to the side and still fit onto the switch. If they have a flat lightswitch they can post it above.
THOUGHT TREAT: Dark-to-Light Cupcakes. Frost cupcakes first with chocolate frosting then with a yellow sun frosted on top. Tell children that Jesus is our light at any time we can pray and He will guide us through the darkness.
SCRIPTURE CARDS: Help children Search and Ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. PRINT this 5 x 7 scripture card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.
Mosiah 24:15
“The burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.”
