ACTIVITIES FOR:
Prophets are like watchmen who warn us of danger.
POST-AND-PRESENT. OUR PROPHET SPEAKS commandments match or choice cube. Play the MATCH game by matching “call-out” messages from our prophet. To deepen the discussion, add the CHOICE CUBE option to the activity. First, choose a “call-out” message and then roll the cube and then answer that question with that choice. For example, if they choose “Pray often” and roll “WHY is this important” on the cube they might say, “Because this way I can stay close to Heavenly Father and receive inspiration and guidance.” READ MORE
POST-AND-PRESENT. DO AS I’M DOING – Serve Like a Prophet Guessing Game. Here youth can follow the examples of prophets regarding service. These prophets show us how and how important it is to serve the Lord. SPOTLIGHT IS ON: Moses, King Benjamin, Joseph Smith, Thomas S. Monson, and Russell M. Nelson. Simply match up the arrow word strips with the prophet. READ MORE
AGES 1-5. FOLLOW THE PROPHET poster or coloring page. Children can learn blessings come from obeying the prophet. Prophets like Noah (who built a boat to save his family), Moses (who prayed on a high mountain and Jesus gave him the 10 commandments), and Joseph Smith (who found the gold plates that became the Book of Mormon. The Home Activity prompts parents to help children know about our prophet today. READ MORE

Talk about how prophets were sent by God to teach us of Jesus Christ and His apostles who guide and protect us. Prophets might be Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Samuel, Jonah, Danel, Lehi, Nephi, King Benjamin (shown below), Joseph Smith, or our living prophet today. READ MORE
AGES 8-11 PROPHETS WATCHMEN ON THE TOWER Prophet Nephi’s Warnings scripture search. Youth can be warned by the prophets of old and our prophet today to repent and have faith in the Savior. Wickedness brings destruction. See Heed Warnings from President Nelson–a Modern-Day Watchman on the Tower (HERE). For example, “In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.” READ MORE
TEENS PROPHET PONDER journal. Youth will be inspired to write the prophet’s message and to ponder and pray about his words with this page. READ MORE
POST-AND-PRESENT ACTIVITY. KEEP INSIDE THE FENCE Commandments Keep us Safe quiz. The prophet today leads us to keep God’s commandments. They tell us how to be safe from spiritual and physical dangers. Like the sheep inside the fence, we can be safe from the dangerous wolves, rocks, rivers, and pits. If we sin we can repent and go back inside the fence by keeping the commandments and being safe. READ MORE
YOUTH ACTIVITY. I WILL FOLLOW THE PROPHET ponder doorknob hanger. Youth can write their goal as a reminder on this door sign after hearing a conference address or reading talks by our latter-day prophets. For example, Russel M. Nelson said to help with the gathering of Israel by preparing for the temple to do work there or missionary work or living by example. Specific goals can be listed here. Youth can help younger siblings or children do the same, so make several copies to share. READ MORE
SINGING TIME. “WE LISTEN TO A PROPHET’S VOICE” song visuals. Youth can know from this that when they “listen to a prophet’s voice” they “hear the Savior too.” This song will help them know that they are called to “preach the word of God.” The prophet “holds the keys of priesthood” power “today.” Write the words on the cue cards to place on the backs of the visuals. . . . TWO TESTAMENTS OF JESUS CHRIST . . .
The scriptures teach me about Jesus Christ.
Ezekiel compared the house of Israel to two sticks that become one. These sticks also symbolize the Bible and Book of Mormon, which unitedly testify of Christ.
DOWNLOAD Two Testaments of Jesus Christ puzzle (HERE or below)
-
Give some children copies of the Book of Mormon; give others copies of the Bible. Summarize Ezekiel 37:15–19 by explaining that the Lord told Ezekiel to write on two sticks representing the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Read verse 17, and invite each child to find someone who has a book of scripture different from theirs and “join them” together so that they “become one in [their hands].” Talk about how both the Bible and the Book of Mormon help us strengthen our faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
-
Using pictures from the Gospel Art Book or from past years’ Come, Follow Me books, help the children share stories about Jesus from the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Ask them to share why they are thankful to have these two books of scripture.
The Bible and the Book of Mormon help “gather” us to Jesus Christ.
Ezekiel’s “stick of Judah” (the Bible) and “stick of Joseph” (the Book of Mormon) work together to gather Israel to the Savior (see Ezekiel 37:19).
-
Hold up a copy of the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and ask the children why they feel it’s good to have both of these books. Read to them Ezekiel 37:19, and explain that “the stick of Joseph” refers to the Book of Mormon, which was written by the descendants of Joseph of Egypt, and “the stick of Judah” refers to the Bible, which was written mostly by the Jews. Then read together verses 21–23 and 2 Nephi 3:12, and list blessings that come from having both of these books.
-
Put a picture of Jesus in the middle of the room, and invite the children to move their chairs to different places along the walls of the room. Then ask them to use the Topical Guide to find scriptures in the Bible and Book of Mormon that teach about Jesus Christ (if needed, show them how to do this). After each child shares a scripture, invite all the children to move their chairs closer to the picture of Jesus. Continue until everyone has been “gathered” back to Him.
The Lord is gathering His people and giving them new life.
The gathering of Israel is portrayed in Ezekiel 37 through two symbols. As you read about the first one—dead bones being restored to life (see verses 1–14)—ponder what you learn about gathering Israel on both sides of the veil (see also Ezekiel 36:24–30).
The second symbol (see verses 15–28) involves two sticks, which many scholars interpret as wooden writing boards joined by a hinge. The stick of Judah can represent the Bible (since much of the Bible was written by Judah’s descendants), and the stick of Joseph can represent the Book of Mormon (since Lehi’s family were descendants of Joseph of Egypt). With that in mind, what do these verses teach you about the role of the scriptures in the gathering of Israel? What does 2 Nephi 3:11–13 (a prophecy about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon) add to your understanding?
See also 2 Nephi 29:14; “The Book of Mormon Gathers Scattered Israel” (video, ChurchofJesusChrist.org).

. . . BLESSED WITH TEMPLE BLESSINGS . . .
Great blessings come from the temple.
Ezekiel’s vision of a healing river that flowed out of a temple can help the children learn that temples bring blessings into our lives.
-
Show the children a glass of water. How does water bless us? Tell the children about Ezekiel’s vision of water flowing out of the temple (see Ezekiel 47:1–12). Show the picture in this week’s outline in Come, Follow Me—For Individuals and Families (see also the video “And the River Will Grow,” ChurchofJesusChrist.org). Tell the children about blessings you receive that, like the river in Ezekiel’s vision, flow from the temple.
-
Invite the children to draw a picture of themselves going to the temple. Sing together a song that describes temple blessings, such as “Families Can Be Together Forever” (Children’s Songbook, 188). What does this song teach about how temples bless us?
DOWNLOAD Families Can Be Together Forever song visuals (HERE or below)Temple blessings can heal our hearts and families.

Invite each child to pick one of these things to draw. Then read the verses together, and invite the children to share their drawings when their elements are mentioned. What blessings came from the river in this vision? (see verses 8–9, 12). Help the children see how these blessings are like the blessings Heavenly Father and the Savior offer those who keep temple covenants.
-
Show the video “And the River Will Grow” (ChurchofJesusChrist.org). Or read together what Elder Dale G. Renlund taught about Ezekiel’s vision in “Family History and Temple Work: Sealing and Healing” (Ensign or Liahona, May 2018, 47–48). . . . GAIN “NEW HEART” & “NEW SPIRIT” . . .
Jesus Christ can help me change my heart.
Ezekiel used phrases like “new heart” and “new spirit” to teach about the kind of change the Savior brings into our lives.
-
Ask the children to search Ezekiel 2:3–4; 3:7 for words that described the Israelites. Then invite them to read Ezekiel 36:26–27 to learn how the Savior offered to help them change. What words could describe the “new heart” and “new spirit” He gives us? (see, for example, Mosiah 3:19; 5:2).
-
Ask the children to think of things “stiffhearted” or “hardhearted” people (Ezekiel 2:4; 3:7) might do. For example, how might they react to counsel from a parent or the prophet? What might they do when they see someone in need? How do we act differently when the Savior has softened our hearts?
The Lord wants to forgive.
“If our … sins be upon us,” the captive Israelites wondered, “how should we then live?” (Ezekiel 33:10). In response, the Lord taught them important truths about repentance and forgiveness. These questions might help you ponder those truths:
-
What do you think it means to “trust to [your] own righteousness”? (see Ezekiel 33:12–13).
-
What would you say to someone who feels that the righteous person and the wicked person described in Ezekiel 33:12–19 are not being treated fairly? (see also Matthew 21:28–31; Luke 18:9–14).
-
What phrases do you find in these verses that help you understand what it means to repent? What additional insights do you find in Ezekiel 36:26–27 and Alma 7:14–16?
